It
was 1830 when surveyors started the
process of putting Fletcher on the map. One of the
most prominent early citizens of the area was
Samuel Fletcher, who was doing business there by
1835 and for whom the town probably is named.
The village was incorporated in 1848. In 1998,
the village marked its 50th Anniversary. As part of
the celebrations, an old-style covered bridge was
designed and erected, so that now, Miami County has
two covered bridges.
The nationwide 4-H youth program got its start
near Fletcher thanks to the local educator A.B.
Graham. His life, and the history of the
surrounding area, has been preserved at the A.B.
Graham Center.
Fletcher
is a town known locally for its surrounding
agricultural land, but it also is known nationally
for Midwest Micro, one of the largest mail order
computer companies in the United States, and a
major employer in Miami County.
