There is a lot of history in and around Miami County. The people here are proud of that history and have taken care to preserve it. Almost every town in the county has some sort of museum that holds treasures of the people's past. Some of the museums listed below also host cultural events and festivals and several provide access to genealogical information.

A.B. Graham Center

The museum and exhibit center, housed in the former Miami East Junior High School, promotes the life and career of A.B. Graham, the founder of the 4-H Club program. Also included on the site is a fitness center. Admission free.

Fort Rowdy Museum

Housed in an 1849 brick school house, the museum displays numerous items relating to the history of Covington and Newberry Township. The museum also reflects the various occupants of the structure, which have included village council, a militia unit and a fire department. Admission free.

Troy-Hayner Cultural Center

Located in the restored 1914 Hayner family mansion, the center offers cultural programming and displays, house tours, and public meeting facilities. The Hayner mansion was the former home of the Troy-Miami County Public Library. A genealogical research room is located in the center. Admission free.

J. Scott Garbry Museum

The museum houses classrooms, land laboratories and a replica of a town square featuring re-creations of 19th century shops. Transportation displays include a conestoga wagon, carriages and horse-drawn farm equipment. Admission free.

Exhibits on the history of Troy and Miami County highlight this restored pre-Civil War house and museum. Rotating presentations on topics such as sports, religion and health care join a permanent exhibition on food preservation, canning and period furniture. Admission free.

The Pleasant Hill Museum displays a growing collection of items that relate to the history of the village. Call for workshop information. All workshops are free and open to the public.

Overfield Tavern Museum

This log structure, built in 1808 by Benjamin Overfield, served Troy as an inn, courthouse, church and school. The museum houses a collection of early 19th century household furnishings and implements. Admission free.

Piqua Historical Museum

Located in the Caldwell Historic District, the 1890 building houses historical exhibits on the Piqua area from the prehistoric age to the 20th century. Across the street, the public library offers genealogical and historic collections. The library collection is open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Admission free.

Operated by the Ohio Historical Society, the Piqua Historical Area includes Johnston Farm, a major trading site during the early 19th century. Also on the site is a history of Ohio farming museum and a portion of the Miami-Erie Canal with canal boat rides.

The 1869 home of former Randolph slave York Rial contains the African-American Cultural Center. Displays portray African-American history in the Rossville/Piqua area, across the nation and in Africa. The area's earliest African-American burial grounds are located nearby. Admission free.

Tippecanoe Museum

Concentrating on Tipp City and Monroe Township, the museum and its research archives illustrate the change and growth of the community. The museum is located a short distance from the Tippecanoe National Register Historical District. Admission free.

Union Township Historical Museum and Quaker Research Center

The Union Township Historical Museum and Quaker Research Center offers displays on township history and an archives and research collection on Quaker history and the career of Ohio politician Robert Netzley. Down the road from the museum stands a replica of an 1804 Quaker log meeting house. Admission free.

The WACO Museum and Aviation Learning Center

The museum features the history and development of the WACO Aircraft Company founded by Clayton Brukner. Exhibits depict the company's commercial and military aircraft production from the 1920s through WWII. A second facility, WACO Field, is a 1920s-styled grass airport. WACO Field is used for aviation events and aircraft restoration. Admission free.
