MIAMI COUNTY — The comeback story of the year will continue into the postseason.
Tippecanoe — which won just three games all of last season — was the lone Miami County team to earn a top seed in the boys basketball tournament draw Sunday, picking up the No. 1 seed in the Division II Springfield sectional.
The Red Devils will open tournament play Feb. 20 against Springfield Shawnee. Tippecanoe beat Shawnee 48-43 on Feb. 8 in a regular-season contest. The two teams will play again Friday.
The winner of the tournament game will play Ben Logan Feb. 23 in the sectional semifinal.
Troy, the No. 17 seed in the Division I Dayton 1 sectional at Butler High School, will face No. 5 Xenia Feb. 19 in the opening round of the tournament. The winner of that game will face the winner of No. 6 Sidney vs. No. 8 Tecumseh on Feb. 23.
Piqua earned the No. 11 seed and will play in the Dayton 3 sectiona. The Indians open against No. 16 Beavercreek Feb. 20 at Trotwood-Madison. The winner of that game will play the winner of No. 15 Belmont vs. No. 10 Greenville Feb. 23 at Centerville.
Tippecanoe is the lone Division II team in Miami County.
In the Dayton 1 sectional at Belmont High School, Miami East picked up the No. 2 seed and will meet No. 19 National Trail Feb. 20. The winner of that game will face the winner of No. 8 Brookville vs. No. 10 Preble Shawnee on Feb. 24.
In the Dayton 2 sectional at Northmont, Milton-Union, the No. 20 seed, will face No. 1 seed Northridge Feb. 20 in the opening round. The winner will face No. 18 Greenon Feb. 24.
In the Dayton 3 sectional at Northmont, Bethel picked up the No. 5 seed and a first-round bye. The Bees will face the winner of No. 6 Carlisle vs. No. 10 Stivers Feb. 23.
In the Division IV Troy sectional, Newton picked up the No. 5 seed. The Indians will open tournament play Feb. 20 against No. 9 Springfield Catholic Central. The winner will play the winner of No. 3 Yellow Springs vs. No. 10 Jefferson on Feb. 23.
Troy Christian picked up the No. 8 seed and took a bye through the first round. The Eagles will face the winner of No. 2 Southeastern vs. No. 11 Miami Valley on Feb. 24.
In the Division IV Piqua sectional, Covington earned the No. 7 seed and will face No. 8 Botkins Feb. 20 in the opening round. The winner will face the winner of No. 1 Jackson Center vs. No. 11 Ansonia on Feb. 24.
Lehman, the No. 12 seed, took a bye through the first round and will play the winner of No. 2 Russia vs. No. 13 Bradford on Feb. 23. Bradford plays Russia Feb. 19.
