Former county athletes making waves as freshmen

TOLEDO — Halee Printz has made an immediate impact on the University of Toledo women’s basketball team.

Printz, a Tippecanoe High School graduate, is the only true freshman on the Rockets’ roster to have appeared in all 17 games heading into today’s contest with Eastern Michigan.

Printz is averaging 3.7 points and 0.8 rebounds per game for the Rockets. She’s seventh on the team in total playing time.

Toledo is 9-8 this season, including 4-2 in the Mid-American Conference.

Shelly Zelnick

NEW ORLEANS, La. — Zelnick, a Troy High School graduate and freshman swimmer at Tulane University, continues to set school records, no matter where she’s swimming.

Earlier this season, Zelnick — who hold a number of school records at Troy — set the Tulane school record in the 200 individual medley, turning in a 2:03.41 at the Georgia Tech Invitational.

ADA — Deeter, a Covington High School graduate, is a junior on the Ohio Northern University wrestling team.

Deeter is the Polar Bears’ No. 1 wrestler at 165 pounds. He’s 18-10 this season, with two wins by pin, two wins by technical fall and two wins by major decision.

Ohio Northern travels to Mount Union Tuesday.

Madison Linn

SPRINGFIELD — Linn, a Miami East High School graduate, is a junior on the Wittenberg University women’s basketball team.

Linn has appeared in all 15 of the Tigers’ games so far this season and is averaging 3.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.

Wittenberg is 4-11 this season. The Tigers travel to Ohio Wesleyan Saturday.

Cody May, Chris Landrum, A.J. Hickman and Dusty Poteet

PIQUA — Four former Miami County basketball players currently are members of the Edison State Community College men’s basketball team.

May, a Troy High School graduate, has started all 17 of the Chargers’ games this season. He’s third on the team in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game. He’s also second on the team in rebounds with 8.5 per game.

Landum, a Troy Christian High School graduate, has appeared in 17 games with 13 starts. He’s averaging 9.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He’s second on the team with 3.2 assists per game.

Hickman, a Miami East High School graduate, has appeared in 11 games, including three starts. He’s averaging 4.0 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Poteet, a Troy Christian High School graduate, has played in 14 games this season. He’s averaging 3.6 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

Brooke Dunlevy and Katie Poteet

PIQUA — Dunlevy, a Bradford High School graduate, and Poteet, a Troy Christian High School graduate, both are members of the Edison State Community College women’s basketball team.

Dunlevy has started all 16 of the Chargers games this season and is leading the team in scoring with 20.6 points per game. She’s also averaging 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

Poteet has played in 10 games this season. She’s averaging 0.2 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.
