TROY — The T-shirts are ordered, the grass is trimmed and — as soon as Monday — Troy Memorial Stadium will be alive with the sounds of football once again as the Troy High School football program begins hosting the first of three summer football camps.

The first camp is the Troy Football Little Man’s Camp, which begins Monday. The Troy Junior High School Football Camp and Troy Varsity Football Camp both begin July 11.

“We’re excited,” Troy head football coach Matt Burgbacher said of the upcoming camp season. “We want the kids to come out and have some fun. That’s the most important thing with these camps, particularly for the younger kids.”

Here’s a look at the three upcoming Troy football camps, including times, dates and costs:

Troy Football Little Man’s Camp (Monday-Wednesday)

The three-day camp will be held from 10 a.m. to noon daily, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The camp is open to Troy boys and girls who will be entering grades 2-6. The cost of the camp is $40, which includes a T-shirt. Those who have not yet registered may do so on the first day of camp. The camp will be held at Troy Memorial Stadium.

“The biggest thing we emphasize with this camp is having fun and making sure you learn something,” Burgbacher said. “Every day at the end of practice, I’ll take a few minutes and as the kids, ‘What’s the one thing you learned today?’ We’ll talk to them not only about football, but also some of the leadership techniques we talk about with our high school kids.

“Our coaching staff will be there, but the majority of the coaching will be done by our high school team. If we are running a wide receivers drill, who are the kids going to listen to? Are they going to listen to me or Zach Boyer? They are going to listen to Zach Boyer, because that’s the kid they are going to be watching play on Friday nights. This really gives our younger kids a good chance to connect with our older kids.”

Troy Junior High Football Camp (July 11-15 and July 17-22)

This 10-day camp is for players who will be entering grades seven and eight at Troy Junior High School this fall. The cost of the camp is $70, which includes a camp T-shirt and camp shorts. The camp will be held daily from 9-11:30 a.m. Players should report to the field located behind Troy Junior High School.

“We’ll start at the junior high school every day, but we’ll probably bring the kids down to the stadium a couple of times to watch our varsity practice, too. We want them to see how we do things and see what kind of tempo we run.”

Troy Varsity Football camp (July 11-16 and July 18-21)

The 10-day camp is for football players entering grades 9-12 at Troy High School this fall. The start times will vary each day, depending on 7-on-7 scrimmages. All players should have received a camp schedule — those who have not yet received a schedule should contact Burgbacher immediately.

The camp dates will include 7-on-7 scrimmages against a variety of area high schools.
