MIAMI COUNTY — What began earlier this week finally became official early Friday.
After one event — the steeplechase, where competitors must jump a 12-foot long, 2 1/2-foot deep pool of water on five laps around the track — was cancelled for Friday night’s Herb Hartman Invitational track and field meet at Troy Memorial Stadium earlier in the week, the day’s cold temperatures, periodic rain and finally the threat of below-30-degree wind chill caused the cancellation of the entire meet on Friday, joining the rest of Miami County’s high school athletic events.
The Miami East Invitational track meet, scheduled for Friday night, had already been cancelled as of Thursday. And Saturday’s Anna Invitational — which Troy Christian and Lehman were slated to compete in — was also cancelled.
Troy’s baseball and softball games against Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division foe Greenville were postponed and tentatively rescheduled to Wednesday. The softball game had already been postponed from Thursday, and both Trojan teams face Trotwood in a Monday-Tuesday division series before attempting to make up the Greenville games.
Milton-Union’s baseball and softball games at Madison were also postponed and tentatively rescheduled to Tuesday.
Troy Christian’s Friday baseball game against Mississinawa Valley was cancelled. And the Eagles’ doubleheader at Bradford Saturday — which was already bumped back two hours — was also cancelled. In addition, Bradford’s baseball and softball games Friday against Riverside were cancelled, as was Saturday’s softball doubleheader against Triad.
Bethel’s softball game at Preble Shawnee was cancelled.
Lehman’s Friday baseball game against Arcanum was cancelled, as was the Cavalier softball team’s game at Lima Central Catholic.
Tippecanoe’s tennis match at Lehman Friday was also cancelled, as was Tippecanoe’s baseball game at Eaton Saturday — which will be made up on May 4.
One positive note from the Herb Hartman Invitational cancellation, though: When Troy Memorial Stadium hosts the Miami County Invitational track meet on April 19, the steeplechase will now be part of that meet.
