BRANDT — The Bethel girls basketball team may have closed the regular season on a two-game skid after Thursday’s loss to visiting Brookville, but the Bees still completed one of their more successful seasons in recent years, going 10-12 heading into the postseason.

Alaina Hawthorn led the Bees with 20 points, Becky Schwieterman added 11 and Courtney Schmidt chipped in five as Bethel trailed by one at the half but took a two-point lead heading into the fourth — only to be outscored 20-10 in the final eight minutes.

The back-to-back losses slowed the Bees’ momentum a little, as they came on the heels of a five-game winning streak. Now Bethel has a first-round bye in the Division III sectional tournament, playing in the second round Wednesday at Tippecanoe against the winner of Saturday’s Miami East-Preble Shawnee game.
