PITSBURG — Maddie Mollette became Newton’s all-time leading scorer Thursday night — and is on the cusp of becoming the girls basketball program’s first-ever 1,000-point scorer — leading the Indians to a 73-39 victory over Franklin Monroe on the road.
Mollette scored a game-high 21 points, giving her 951 for her career with three games to go in the regular season. Tatum McBride added 19 points, Aliya Stine scored 11 and Brittney Oburn added eight.
Newton (12-7, 7-4 Cross County Conference) travel to Covington Saturday, looking to avenge a loss earlier this season.
TC North 24
COVINGTON — Covington freshman Sammi Whiteman scored a game-high 27 points Thursday night and the Buccaneer defense did the rest in a 75-24 victory over Tri-County North.
Whiteman also had eight assists and six steals to go with here scoring and Brooke Gostomsky added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Buccs (13-6, 9-2 Cross County Conference), who had every player that got onto the court in the game score.
“Sammi played an all-around great game tonight. Her game was on at both ends of the floor,” Covington coach Craig Maschino said. “Our defensive pressure was relentless, suffocating and intense tonight. I was pleased with the way our girls were reading and anticipating passes.”
Covington hosts Newton Saturday.
ME 46, NT 20
NEW PARIS — Miami East’s defense only allowed three first-quarter points, giving the Vikings an early edge on the way to a 46-20 Cross County Conference win Thursday at National Trail.
Morgan Haney led all scorers with 18 points, Haley Howard added 10 and Megan Kinnison and Bailey Miller both scored five as East (12-8, 9-2 CCC) built a 28-13 halftime lead then put the game away by outscoring the Blazers 8-1 in the fourth.
Miami East travels to Tri-County North Thursday.
M-U 46, Dixie 26
NEW LEBANON — Milton-Union rebounded from its loss at Franklin earlier this week, turning a nine-point halftime lead into a 46-26 victory Thursday at Dixie.
Jordan Pricer led all scorers with 16 points for the Bulldogs (14-6, 73 Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division), Liz Renner had eight points and 10 rebounds and Kristen Dickison had six points, six assists and five rebounds.
The Bulldogs host SWBL Buckeye co-leader Waynesville Saturday.
TV 59, Bradford 32
LEWISBURG — Bradford (7-12, 6-6 Cross County Conference) got its shot at CCC leader Tri-Village (18-1, 11-0 CCC) Thursday night, but the Patriots remained unbeaten in league play with a 59-32 victory.
Kenzie Weldy had 17 points and Mandi Bates added nine to lead the Railroaders, who host Riverside Saturday.
Other scores: Bethel (9-10) 36, Twin Valley South 24.
Trojans Sweep Rams
TROTWOOD — The Troy boys and girls bowling teams cruised to victory against Trotwood Thursday, with the girls winning 2,001-996 and the boys winning 1,908-1,483.
Jennica Funderburg led the girls (14-1, 6-1 Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division) with 168-161—329, Rachel Darrow rolled 168-142—310, A’leigha Smith added a 238 game, Kirsten McMullen added a 183, Sierra Brown a 160, Jenna Stone a 154, Alyssa Shilt a 149 and Cassidy McMullen a 138.
Brian Joins had a 171-141—312 to lead the boys (7-8, 5-2 GWOC North), Preston Jackson rolled 156-142—298, Logan Jones rolled 144-148—292, Aaron Stone added a 221 game, A.J. Kendall rolled a 170, Landon Flory a 167 and Jason Shiltz a 129.
Troy travels to Butler Tuesday.
