SIDNEY — After Troy’s boys basketball team lost its second straight game, it was easy to see exactly how it happened.
The Trojans simply didn’t make shots.
Troy shot poorly from the field, going 15 for 60 — 25 percent — Friday night at Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division rival Sidney, and the Yellow Jackets took advantage, holding the Trojans to only 10 first-half points and putting away a 56-39 victory.
Romello Yaqub led the Trojans (4-8, 1-3 GWOC North) with 11 points. Mechia Linton added nine points, a team-high nine rebounds and two blocked shots and Ryan McClurg, Trey Bucio and Estevan Stafford each scored five points as Troy fell behind 14-7 after the first then was outscored 13-3 in the second quarter, trailing 27-10 at the break.
Cameron Gallimore led Sidney (9-4, 2-2 GWOC North) with a game-high 16 points and Andre Gordon had 12 points and seven assists.
Troy hosts Beavercreek Tuesday.
Kenton Ridge 47
SPRINGFIELD — Tippecanoe puts its impromptu day off earlier this week to good use.
After being snowed out Tuesday night against Versailles, the Red Devils ran their winning streak to six games Friday night, holding off Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division rival Kenton Ridge for a 57-47 victory.
Zach Wildermuth posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead Tippecanoe (8-4, 4-2 CBC Kenton Trail) and Jakob Prall added 14 points, four steals and three assists. Zach Bonifas scored seven points, Adam Grieshop and Joe Tesch each had six points and Carter Mann contributed nine rebounds.
After an 18-18 first quarter, the Devils took control by holding the Cougars (7-6, 2-4 Kenton Trail) to only four second-quarter points to take a 29-22 halftime lead. Tippecanoe outscored Kenton Ridge 18-10 in the third and held on from there.
The Devils faced Milton-Union Saturday night in a game that was not complete at time of press. Tippecanoe hosts Indian Lake Tuesday.
TVS 58, Newton 48
WEST ALEXANDRIA — After Newton fought back to tie the game heading into the fourth quarter, Twin Valley South made all the plays it needed down the stretch to score a 58-48 Cross County Conference victory over the Indians Friday night.
Brady McBride led the Indians (7-5, 3-2 CCC) with 18 points, Brock Jamison added 15 and Nelson Clymer scored seven as Newton was outscored 23-13 in the final eight minutes of the game by the Panthers (7-6, 4-3 CCC).
Newton hosts Tri-County North Jan. 22.
EC 40, TC 35
TROY — Troy Christian’s losing streak hit seven games Friday night as Emmanuel Christian (6-5) rallied from a seven-point deficit heading into the fourth to steal a 40-35 victory over the Eagles.
Chase Hayden led Troy Christian (4-8) with 13 points and six rebounds, James Anderson added six points and nine rebounds and Jacob Brown added six points.
Troy Christian traveled to Franklin Monroe Saturday in a game that was not complete at time of press. The Eagles host Xenia Christian Tuesday.
Waynesville 57, M-U 34
WAYNESVILLE — Milton-Union is still searching for its first victory of the season after Friday night’s loss at Waynesville, a 57-34 defeat in Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division play.
Tommy and Blake Smith each scored 10 points and Eric Swartz added nine, but the rest of the Bulldogs (0-9, 0-5 SWBL Buckeye) combined for only five points as Milton-Union shot 11 for 43 (25.6 percent) from the field.
The Bulldogs hosted Tippecanoe Saturday in a game that was not complete at time of press. Milton-Union hosts Preble Shawnee Tuesday.

Newton 61, Fairlawn 54
PLEASANT Hill — Newton’s girls basketball team took an eight-point lead after one quarter and maintained that edge throughout, holding off Fairlawn (2-13) for a 61-54 victory Saturday at home.
Maddie Mollette had another big game for the Indians (11-4), following up a 30-point effort earlier this week by scoring a game-high 26 points. Tatum McBride added 15 points and Elizabeth Carroll and Kaylee Kesler each scored eight.
Newton travels to Xenia Christian Tuesday.
Houston 53, Bradford 31
HOUSTON — Bradford (5-10) lost for the fourth time in its last five games Saturday, falling at Houston 53-31.
Mandi Bates had 13 points and Chelsea Gill added nine for the Railroaders, who travel to Parkway Tuesday.
Other scores: Lehman 51, Mississinawa Valley 32.
MIAMISBURG — After more than a week off, the Troy wrestling team finished fourth at the Miamisburg Invitational Saturday, claiming one individual championship and a pair of runner-up finishes.
Christian Nation (220) won a title for the Trojans, with Davin Snyder (182) and Will Brumfield (195) both finishing second. Kobe Scott (132) placed third. Brandon Lewis (106), Justin Mittelstadt (138) and Frankie Quintero (145) each placed fourth, Shane Shoop (152) placed fifth, and Shane Love (126) placed seventh.
“The guys all fought really well today,” Troy coach Doug Curnes said. “Other than the two guys we left at home, we got everyone down and the lineup the way we want it. I was proud of everyone’s efforts today.”
Troy gets another week off, traveling to Groveport Madison on Jan. 30.
