MIAMI COUNTY — With the first real snow of the new winter season, naturally, came the first wave of postponements and cancellations.
All of Tuesday night’s scheduled basketball and wrestling around Miami County were postponed due to the inclement weather, with only Troy’s home bowling match against Butler going on as scheduled.
In boys basketball, the Cross County Conference showdown between rivals Covington and Miami East was snowed out, with the game being rescheduled to 7 p.m. on Jan. 18 at Covington.
Another CCC matchup, National Trail at Bethel, was bumped only one day. The game will be played Wednesday night at Bethel. The Vikings and Bees will meet Friday night.
Tippecanoe, still riding a five-game winning streak, saw its tough test at Versailles postponed until Jan. 26. The Red Devils will play at Kenton Ridge Friday and Milton-Union Saturday.
Milton-Union is still looking for its first win, meanwhile, but its home game against Dixie was postponed, with no makeup date immediately set. The Bulldogs travel to Waynesville Friday.
Arcanum at Newton was also postponed Tuesday night, with the game being moved to Jan. 23. The Indians game against Franklin Monroe, which was postponed before Christmas, was also rescheduled to Feb. 2. Also moved to Feb. 2 was the Bradford at Mississinawa Valley game.
In girls basketball, Troy Christian’s game at Temple Christian was postponed, with no makeup date immediately set.
And in wrestling, Milton-Union and Covington’s tri at Sidney was postponed, with no makeup date immediately set.

Franklin Monroe 34
PITSBURG — Milton-Union’s girls basketball team bounced back from its loss at Waynesville over the weekend, rebounding with a 58-34 victory at Franklin Monroe Monday night.
Kristen Dickison led the Bulldogs (12-4) with 13 points and seven assists and Jordan Pricer added 10 points and five steals as Milton-Union jumped out to an eight-point lead after one quarter and built a 31-15 edge by halftime.
Olivia Brown also added seven points and five rebounds, Liz Renner had six points, eight rebounds and a whopping seven blocked shots and Madeline Brown, Michaela Fullmer, Taylor Jacobs, Beyonce Bobbitt and Bri Stone each added four points.
Milton-Union hosts Madison Thursday.
DAYTON — A late Bethel rally fell short Monday night as the Bees (5-9) dropped their sixth straight in a 32-27 loss at Northridge.
Morgan Crase led the Bees with 11 points and Kayla Grable, Tia Koewler and Becky Schwieterman each scored five as Bethel fell behind 13-4 after the first quarter. The Polar Bears (2-13) led by 11 at halftime and 28-16 going into the third quarter, and though the Bees outscored them 11-4 in the fourth, it wasn’t enough.
The Bees host Miami East Thursday.
RUSSIA — The Covington Buccaneers (10-5) dropped their second straight Monday night, falling at Russia (8-6) 54-45.
The Buccs host Greenville Saturday before a rematch at Miami East on Jan. 21.
