PITSBURG — Troy Christian’s girls basketball team bounced back from its tough loss against Dayton Christian, going to Franklin Monroe Monday night and holding off the Jets for a 41-36 victory.
Lauryn Lavy led the Eagles (4-2) with 14 points and seven rebounds, Hailey Peters added 11 points and nine rebounds and Meredith Haddad chipped in eight points as Troy Christian held a slim 16-15 lead at the half, pulled away in the third and hit 7 of 9 free throws in the fourth to hold on.
“The kids played really well in the second half of the game,” Troy Christian coach Dick Steineman said. “We got a good road win.”
Sophie Pitsenbarger added four points and Kenley Blake and Rachel Winters scored two apiece.
Troy Christian travels to Xenia Christian Saturday.
Troy 8, LaSalle 2;
Troy 3, Elder 3
CINCINNATI — The Troy hockey team had its most successful weekend of the young season Saturday and Sunday at the Cincinnati Gardens, defeating LaSalle 8-2 Saturday and tying Elder 3-3 Sunday to improved to 2-4-1 on the season, 1-0-1 in the Southwestern Ohio High School Hockey League.
On Saturday, Prestyn Hoeffler had a hat trick, A.J. Noll had two goals and three assists and Tyler Hess had two goals to lead the way through foggy conditions inside the rink. John Wehrkamp added a goal and an assist and Troy Moore, Enrique Alejandre, Charlie Ryan, Shane Smith and Dominic Wenrick each had an assist as the Trojans won their SWOHSHL opener. Cory Neff made 10 saves on the night for the win in goal.
Against Elder, Hoeffler had another hat trick, scoring all three Troy goals — including the game-tying one with 34 seconds left after the Trojans had pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Neff made 15 saves, Noll had two assists and Moore had one assist.
Troy hosts Whitmer Saturday in its home opener at Hobart Arena.
