TROTWOOD — The Troy volleyball team began last season with 13 straight wins.

Thursday, the Trojans improved on that mark — and in dominant fashion — winning their 14th straight to start this season with a 25-4, 25-7, 25-10 sweep at Trotwood in Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division play.

Service-wise, eight different Trojans had at least one of the team’s 17 total aces, with Dana Wynkoop leading the way with four and Miranda Silcott and Camryn Moeller adding three each. Victoria Holland led the offense with eight kills, Silcott and Katie DeMeo each added six and Moeller had five. Wynkoop had 11 assists, Katie Jackson had seven and Emily Brinkman had five.

Defensively, the Trojans barely had to work, as Silcott and Holland had two blocks and one block, respectively, and Lauren Freed’s four digs and Kaylie Marshall’s three were more than half of the team’s total of 12.

Troy (14-0) travels to Butler Tuesday.

Tipp 3, KR 2

TIPP CITY — Two straight kills by Tippecanoe’s Alyssa Crusey put an end to a back-and-forth battle of a Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division rivalry matchup Thursday night as the Red Devils (6-3) outlasted Kenton Ridge in five, 27-25, 25-19, 16-25, 21-25, 16-14.

Crusey finished the match with 20 kills, 18 digs and two aces, Taylor Prall had 18 kills and three blocks and Aubrey Cox had 12 kills and seven blocks to lead the way. Emily Shuk added three blocks, Jordan McMahan had 32 digs, Taylor Waltemathe had 10 digs and two aces, Kara Trimbach had 53 assists and Laura Rosselit had nine assists.

“This was our first win over Kenton Ridge in three years,” Tippecanoe coach Howard Garcia said. “A hitting error by KR tied the game at 14-14 in the fifth, and then two straight kills by Crusey closed the match.”

Tippecanoe faces another big test Saturday, competing in the Clash in Casstown tournament at Miami East.

ME 3, Bradford 0

CASSTOWN — Miami East tuned up for its Clash in Casstown Tournament this weekend with an easy 3-0 victory over Bradford in Cross County Conference play Thursday night, winning 25-7, 25-9, 25-6.

Jonni Parker had 11 kills, six assists and nine aces and Kyndall Hellyer had six kills and three aces to lead the way. Lindsey Black added eight aces and 16 digs and Carly Gump had 13 assists and two aces.

Miami East will face Adams Central in the first round of the Clash in Casstown at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Dixie 3, M-U 1

NEW LEBANON — Milton-Union lost for the first time in Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division play Thursday night, falling 11-25, 25-10, 25-12, 25-13 at Dixie.

“We were hitting on all cylinders in that first set, but then the wheels fell off,” Milton-Union coach Bill Ginn said. “I’m kind of at a loss to say exactly what happened. But my kids are resilient, and we’ll bounce back.”

Milton-Union (6-4, 4-1) travels to Waynesville Tuesday to take on the division leader.

FM 3, Covington 0

COVINGTON — Covington played a stronger match despite the results Thursday, falling to Franklin Monroe in three, 25-16, 25-23, 25-21.

“I am much happier with our play tonight,” Covington coach Lonnie Cain said. “I felt our girls played more aggressively and I saw a big improvement over Tuesday’s match.”

Rachel York led the Buccaneers (3-7, 3-2 Cross County Conference) with 11 kills and a dig, Breanna Kimmel had seven kills, two aces and two blocks, Legend Patty had five blocks, Bre Dieperink had five assists, two kills, four digs and three aces, Arianna Richards had eight assists, two aces and a dig and Ashley Cecil had seven digs.

Covington travels to Bradford Tuesday.

SPRINGFIELD — Troy Christian was swept in Metro Buckeye Conference play Thursday, falling 25-15, 25-19, 25-22 at Emmanuel Christian.

Kathryn Lee had 10 kills, five blocks and 12 digs, Jenna Bullock had 11 assists, Rachel Winters had five assists and five digs and Kristen Winger had 10 digs.

ME 5, FM 0

CASSTOWN — Miami East’s girls soccer team improved to 3-0 in Cross County Conference play — and 6-3 overall — with a 5-0 victory over Franklin Monroe Thursday night.

Sage Hunley and Morgan Haney worked the ball up the field for the first goal, with Hunley dishing to Haney then back to Hunley for the score. Cerstin Gross then assisted on a Haley Demmitt score, and Emily Holicki sent a pass up to Grace McCalister for a 3-0 halftime lead. Holicki scored early in the second half, and Autumn Taylor finished off a pass from Hunley for the fifth goal.

Katie Bodenmiller made three saves for the shutout.

“Tonight was a team win,” Miami East coach Emalie Carson said. “We did a good job possessing and moving the ball around. And we had a lot of girls involved in the scoring. That was Autumn’s first varsity goal, so I was definitely happy for her.”

M-U 8, Dixie 0

NEW LEBANON — Milton-Union’s Danielle McFarland broke the 50-goals barrier for her career, then added a couple more for good measure with a hat trick in Thursday’s 8-0 Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division victory at Dixie.

McFarland scored the first three goals of the night, numbers 50, 51 and 52 for her career, on assists from Madison Brandon, Taylor Jacobs and Heather Ressler. Maddie Brown then drove in a free kick from 25 yards out, and McFarland assisted a goal by Karissa Baird that made it 5-0 at the half. Dixie scored an own-goal on a shot by Brandon, then Brandon scored with an assist from Kristen Dickison. Dickison finished the scoring with an assist from McFarland.

Milton-Union (7-1-1, 3-0-1) travels to Brookville Saturday.

Bethel 13, NT 1

BRANDT — Bethel’s boys soccer team (6-1-1) scored 10 unanswered goals to start Thursday night’s Cross County Conference matchup against National Trail, finishing off a 13-1 victory.

Tyler Brueckman had three goals and an assist, Evan Hawthorn had two goals and an assist, Zach Cohee had two goals and an assist and Tyler Berkshire and Ryan Wallen had a goal and an assist. Collin Rust, Ben Lawson, Daniel Garcia, Andrew Willett and Chris Terrian each had a goal. Daniel Ross had two assists and Elijah Thomas and Korry Hamlin each had an assist.

FM 2, ME 1

CASSTOWN — The Miami East Vikings fought hard against the current Cross County Conference leaders Thursday night, but in the end the Franklin Monroe Jets came away with a 2-1 win.

Brookville 3, M-U 2

WEST MILTON — The Milton-Union tennis team honored its lone senior, Anna Brown, Thursday night — and her doubles team picked up one of the Bulldogs’ wins — but in the end Brookville handed Milton-Union a 3-2 loss on Senior Night.

At first doubles, Brown and Caitlin Bushelman won 6-0, 6-3. And at second singles, Abby Hissong won 7-5, 6-2.

At first singles, Ashley Wombold lost 6-1, 6-2. At third singles, Kaityln Antonides lost 6-0, 6-0. At second doubles, Lauren Claggett and Mercedes Farmer lost 7-6, 6-3.

Milton-Union finished the season 8-12, 4-2 in the Southwestern Buckeye Conference. The Bulldogs play in the SWBL Tournament Tuesday at Thomas Cloud Park.
