MIAMI COUNTY — All season long, Jonni Parker willed the Miami East volleyball team to victory.

Win after win after win, right up until the final game of the year.

And once the season ended, Parker was honored by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association with a spot on the Division III All-Ohio first team, one of four local volleyball players to earn such honors this season.

Parker and teammate Kyndall Hellyer, who earned honorable mention All-Ohio in D-III, led the Vikings to a 25-5 record this season and the program’s third state championship. The duo — both juniors — were the top two on the team in kills and assists all season long.

In Division I, Troy’s Katie DeMeo earned honorable mention All-Ohio.

In Division IV, Lehman’s Sidney Chapman earned first team All-Ohio.

The District 9 All-District teams were also announced following the season’s conclusion, with a pair of players of the year and one coach of the year coming out of Miami County.

In Division I, Troy senior Katie DeMeo was named the District 9 Player of the Year, while coach Michelle Owen was named the Coach of the Year.

DeMeo may have finished fifth in the Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division — and second on the team even — in kills with 204, but she finished first in attack percentage by a wide margin, with hers coming on only 349 attempts for a .580 percentage.

The Trojans won their fifth straight division title under coach Owen, finishing the season 20-5 and narrowly missing out on a third straight trip to the district final, falling in the sectional championship match to Springboro in four games. For coach Owen, it marked the eighth All-District Coach of the Year award, and the fifth straight. She’s won the award each year since 2008, with the exception of 2011.

DeMeo was also named to the All-District 9 first team, along with teammates Camryn Moeller and Miranda Silcott. Katie Jackson earned a spot on the second team.

Piqua’s Ashley Brading and Kelsey Magoteaux were named All-District 9 first team, and Ashley Ho was named to the second team.

In Division III, Miami East’s Jonni Parker was named the All-District 9 Player of the Year, one of three Vikings honored by the district.

Parker and Hellyer were both named to the first team, while Jillian Wesco was named to the second team.

Milton-Union’s Lauren Craig — the Bulldogs’ senior setter who served a 25-0 game during the regular season — earned a spot on the first team, Bri Stone earned a spot on the second team and Katie Lehman earned honorable mention.

In Division II, Tippecanoe’s Taylor Prall and Emily Shuk were named to the All-District 9 first team, while Isabel Crow earned a spot on the second team.

In Division IV, Lehman’s Sidney Champan was named All-District 9 first team, Madison Hussey was named second team and both Ellie Scott and Alexis Snipes earned honorable mention.

Covington’s Legend Patty earned a spot on the All-District 9 first team, while teammate Ashley Cecil earned a spot on the second team.

Troy Christian’s Kathryn Lee earned All-District 9 honorable mention.
