TROY — Day Two of the Thomas Frydell Memorial Junior Tennis Tournament featured a few more close matches than the first day of competition.
And while most of the singles finals are set for Friday, there will be a few matches left to decide on Saturday, as well as play continued Thursday at Troy Community Park.
In singles play, in the boys 18u bracket, Ben Holbrook defeated Jeremy Penick 6-0, 6-2 in a semifinal match. He will face Craig Manges, a winner in the other semifinal on Wednesday, Friday for the title.
In the boys 16u bracket, Brandon Kreager defeated Matt Yeager 6-0, 6-0 in a semifinal match. He will face Anoop Patel, the winner in the other semifinal on Wednesday, in the title match on Friday morning.
In the boys 14u bracket, Sean Dippold defeated Jaden Fisher 6-0, 6-1 in one semifinal, while Nathan Kleptz defeated Kellen Glover 6-0, 6-0 in the other semifinal. Dippold and Kleptz will play for the title Friday morning.
All of those join the boys 12u final between Noah Davis and Deacon Blake, which was set on Wednesday and will also be played Friday.
In the girls 14u bracket, Shreaya Madireddy defeated Kit Woelke 6-1, 6-0 and Amelia Zweizig defeated Mira Patel 6-2, 6-2. Madireddy and Patel will play for the title Friday morning.
The girls 18u bracket still has one semifinal left to be played before a title matchup can be set. Ashley Wombold advanced past Julia Stefanko via forfeit, then Laura Bowen defeated Wombold 6-3, 6-0 in a semfinal match. On the other half of the bracket, Jackie Fulker defeated Anna Manges 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the semifinal, where she’ll face Claire Larger on Friday morning — with the title game set to be played at 1 p.m. Friday.
Thursday also marked the beginning of play in the doubles brackets. In the boys 18u bracket, the team of Craig Manges and Noah Haupt defeated Austin Glover and Anoop Patel 6-1, 6-1. They will now play Nick Brumbaugh and Nathan Kleptz on Saturday morning.
In the girls 18u doubles bracket, Addie Haupt and Anna Manges won 6-0, 6-1, while Hailey Taylor and Katie Sherrick defeated Jackie Fulker and Emma Kazmaier 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4).
Play also began in the singles backdraws. In the girls 18u backdraw, Emma Kazmaier defeated Katie Sherrick 6-4, 6-2, Leah Fraker defeated Brianna Cardinal 6-0, 6-1, Shelby Mathes defeated Esha Patel 6-1, 6-0 and Hailey Taylor advanced past Hannah Fugate.
In the boys 16/18u backdraw, Nick Brumbaugh defeated Christian Blake 6-0, 6-1 and Noah Blake defeated Austin Glover 6-3, 6-1. And in the boys 12.14u backdraw, Kaden Mathes defeated Ryan Lachat 7-6 (5), 4-6, 1-0 (11-9).
Play resumes at 9 a.m. Friday at Troy Community Park.
