Fire department responds to small fire

Piqua firefighters extinguish a small fire at the site of the old Piqua Fish & Ice on Ohio Street on Tuesday. Firefighters were called to the scene just after 3:30 on a report of smoke and flames coming from the rubble. According to firefighters on the scene, the property owner was using a torch to cut up material as part of the cleanup process when some of the nearby wood ignited. There was no damage and firefighters quickly doused the burning rubble.

Koester Pavilion undergoes renovations

TROY — Koester Pavilion at the Upper Valley Medical Center has undergone some renovations that are designed to help the patients there have a better stay.Marketing/admissions director Kristy Osting said that there was a consensus to renovate the center for patients that were there for short-term stays and therapy. Therapists there work with patients for about three hours a day, so having the home atmosphere is important to keep the morale up among patients.

MIAMI COUNTY — Several items were approved and authorized on Tuesday at the Miami County Commissioners meeting.The public records policy was adopted with revisions that were at the request of the state auditor’s office.
