Female inmates sent to Shelby County

Melanie Yingstmyingst@civitasmedia.comMIAMI COUNTY — Miami County Sheriff’s Office sent female inmates to serve the rest of their sentences in Shelby County Jail on Thursday due to the downtown facilities overcrowding issues.Jail officials loaded up nine female inmates and their belongings on Thursday afternoon.According to Chief Deputy Dave Duchak, it will cost $55 per day, per inmate — $495 a day — to house the females at the Shelby County facility. Of the nine females, each jail sentence varies. Miami County Commissioners approved of the female population moving to Shelby County to help with the downtown jail overcrowding.
