Agencies conduct sex offender check

By Melanie Yingstmyingst@civitasmedia.comMIAMI COUNTY — Officials from several law enforcement agencies conducted a county-wide sweep of all 167 registered sex offenders on Thursday.Miami County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals and all local police departments, including the Piqua Police Department, knocked on doors to verify addresses of sex offenders in the area.Beginning this year, Miami County Sheriff’s Office now conducts sex offender searches four times a year. Miami County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Mike Marion implemented a new protocol, which assigned 4-5 sex offenders per deputy to check on their status on a quarterly basis.
