To the Editor:
The Summer Lunch Buddies program at the Troy Rec has completed another year it was a great success. This program pairs elementary students with teen and adult mentors to provide lunch and one-on-one reading time each summer to help prevent the summer slide. We are so thankful for the many volunteers that make this program run smoothly. Many of these people come back every year to support this important effort.
In addition, we must thank the Paul G. Duke Foundation and the Troy Foundation for their continued support. Without them, there is no way this program could continue. We are blessed to live in a community that values children. The following local businesses or groups have also contributed to keep Summer Lunch Buddies going strong: SEW Eurodrive, Erwin Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Troy Fish and game, Peak Foods LLC, Troy Land Development, La Fiesta, The Scott Family McDonalds, Rose and Associates, Baird Funeral Home, Newport Aquarium, Meijer, Cori Graphics, Winans, Buffalo Wild Wings, Panera Bread, William and Boss Jewelers, King’s Island and Dungan and LeFevre.
According to parent and volunteer feedback, the Summer Lunch Buddies program is making a real difference for the children that attend. We appreciate all of the contributions that make it possible for us to offer this program year after year. Thank you for making Troy a great place for kids!
