TROY — Xenia Christian was picked to finish third in the Metro Buckeye Conference this preseason.

Friday night, the reigning champion let them know just what they think of preseason polls.

The Troy Christian Eagles — who have won the MBC outright the past three seasons — put on a show Friday night, blitzing the Ambassadors in the first half to take a 43-15 lead and closing out a 72-38 statement win at home.

“Xenia Christian was picked third in the conference, and our kids kind of flexed their muscles tonight,” Troy Christian boys basketball coach Ray Zawadzki said. “They went out and said it’s our title, and we’re not going to give it up easy.

“The kids put on a clinic in the first half. That was our best half of basketball all year.”

Four Eagles (3-1, 2-0 MBC) reached double figures, and three — Aaron Horn, Travis Sloan and Nathanael Boone — scored career highs. Grant Zawadzki led a balanced attack with 16 points and eight assists, Horn added 11 points, Logan George and Holden Varvel each scored 10, Sloan chipped in eight and Boone had seven.

“It was a great example of TC basketball, both offensively and defensively. Great team play,” Zawadzki said.
