Alcony Grace Church ice cream social today

TROY — Alcony Grace Church is hosting an ice cream social from 4-7 p.m. today at the church, 1045 S. Alcony-Conover Road, Troy.

Sandwiches, drinks, chips, homemade pies and homemade ice cream will be available.

Summer block party held at First UMC tomorrow

TROY — The First United Methodist Church of Troy will hold the annual Summer Block Party from noon-2 p.m. tomorrow at the First Place Christian Center, 16 W. Franklin St., Troy.

The community is invited to attend. This event is a free and for the whole family. There will be inflatables, pizza, door prize drawings, games, prizes, popcorn and snow cones.

Tent service planned

MERCER COUNTY — Truckers for Christ Ministry will host Lima evangelist Jerry VanTilburgh at a tent service, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m., at the Motor Inn Truck Stop, U.S. 33 at U.S. 127.

The tent will be set up at the truck stop, which is about 10 miles west of St. Marys and 10 miles north of Celina.

Gospel Bob will provide southern gospel bluegrass music for the service.

TROY — Agape will be singing at the 11 a.m. service Aug. 30 at Troy Freewill Baptist Church, 2482 S. County Road 25A, Troy.

GSLC to sponsor clothing drive September 27

WEST MILTON — The Senior Shepherds of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church are sponsoring a clothing drive to benefit The Clothesline, a non-profit organization providing new and gently used clothing, accessories and linens for the whole family at very reasonable prices and free of charge in emergency situations.

Anyone interested in donating may drop them off at the church between 2-4 p.m. Sept. 27 at the church, which is located at 1209 South Miami Street, West Milton.

Support for parents, caregivers

TROY — Special seminar and support groups will be offered at St. Patrick Parish starting Sept. 9.

The church offers GriefShare for those who have lost loved ones through death. Two sessions are offered on Wednesdays from 1-2:30 p.m. or 7-8:30 p.m. in the Parish Center, 444 E. Water St., Troy.

These sessions are for patients, family and care givers. These support groups can be beneficial for those going through a tough time to help them feel they are not alone or their thoughts and feelings are not abnormal. Share with those dealing with the same situations and help each other through this time while learning ways to do it from the experts.

FBC 5k set for Sept. 12

TROY — First Baptist Church is holding its annual 5k race at 10 a.m. September 12 at the church, 53 S. Norwich Road, Troy.

This year, the church partnering with the Lincoln Community Center to donate each participant’s entire registration fee to the LCC After School All Stars Program in Troy.

Artists sought for art show

WEST MILTON — Hoffman United Methodist Church is looking for applicants to take part in the ninth annual art show Oct. 2-4 in the activity center at 201 S. Main St., West Milton. The deadline for entering is September 14.

The purpose of the show is to share area talent with the public. The show is non-juried. Some pieces may be available for purchase, with transactions handled directly between the artist and the interested party.

A gift from local arts patron Bill Netzley of Netzley Roofing has enabled Hoffman to offer monetary awards again this year. Awards to be given are $500 for first place, $400 for second

place, and $300 for third place. Seven additional awards of $100 each will also be presented. This year there will be a youth category open to current high school students with two $50 awards presented in that category.

Application forms may be picked up at the church office, Really Cool Stuff and The Hen’s Nest in West Milton, and The Hotel Gallery in Tipp City. Forms are also available for downloading from the church website at HoffmanUMC.org.
