FLC celebrates advent

TROY — The community is invited to join First Lutheran Church for worship services on Sunday, Dec. 4. Traditional service is at 8 a.m., with a contemporary service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Holy Communion will be celebrated at both services.

Rev. Chuck Beckett will be the guest this weekend. His sermon will be, “The Kingdom of God is at hand?”

At 9:15 a.m. there will be Faith Formation classes for every age.

Mark your calendars for Christmas Eve on Saturday, Dec. 24, for services at 7 and 11 p.m. Both services will share the wonderful Christmas Story, carols both old and new, and have Holy Communion. There will not be services on Sunday, Dec. 25.

Experience live nativity walk

COVINGTON — Stillwater Community Church will host the 21st annual live nativity walk on Dec. 3.

The walks will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The last walk begins at 8:30 p.m. Walks begin every half hour, five walks per night. Admission is free.

Walk to the home of Mary, follow Mary to Elizabeth’s home and walk into the Joseph’s carpenter shop, travel to the inn and listen as the angels announce the birth of Jesus.

After the walk stay warm by the fire and enjoy some hot chocolate, cookies and fellowship.

SCC is located off State Route 48 between Covington and Pleasant Hill. Turn west off State Route 48 onto Sugar Grove Road.

Cookie walk fundraiser planned

TIPP CITY — The Young Neighbors in Action group at St. John the Baptist in Tipp City is hosting a Cookie Walk from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 3 to raise funds for their mission trip.

There will be at least 20 different types of homemade Christmas cookies and candies availabel. Choose how many of each type you want, place them in a provided box and pay by the pound. It’s a no-stress, easy way to get your holiday baking done all while supporting our youth. Cookies are $7.50 per pound.

Bazaar to benefit children in Africa

TIPP CITY — From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 3, Tipp City United Methodist Church will sponsor Angel House Christmas Bazaar, which benefits the children of the Angel House Orphanage/Secondary School in Tanzania, Africa.

More than 25 area art and craft vendors will offer hand-made items for sale. Proceeds from booth rental, the auction, and food concessions will all benefit Angel House.

Members of the church, including Larry and Judy Riesser, have supported the orphanage/secondary school since its inception in 2011. The Riessers have visited the venue twice with mission teams and witnessed the conditions under which the staff provides for as many as 400 children.

The event will take place at Tipp City United Methodist Church, 8 W. Main Street. It will coincide with the annual Cookie Walk, a favorite local destination for more than 25 years for patrons who want to purchase home-baked cookies by the pound. Cookie Walk hours will be 9-11 a.m.

Share-A-Meal set

TROY — First United Church of Christ’s Share-A-Meal will be on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This program is a way of reaching out to the community by providing warm nourishing meals to anyone wishing to participate, while giving an opportunity to socialize with others. Pork tenderloin, potatoes, gravy, vegetables, pie will be on the menu.

The monthly Share-A-Meal Program is on the first Saturday of every month and is located at 120 S. Market St., the corner of South Market and Canal Streets, Troy. Use the Canal Street entrance where the church is handicapped accessible.

Christmas breakfast offered

PLEASANT HILL — The Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ will hold a Christmas pancake and sausage breakfast from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.

Donations of cash or food will be accepted for the Newton Food Pantry and Christmas Basket Program or the organ repair fund. The menu includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, juice, and coffee, tea, or milk.

Christmas cookies on sale

TROY — Delicious home-made holiday cookies and candy will be sold by the pound at the Christmas Cookie Shoppe, from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the First Place Christian Center.

The center is located at 16 W. Franklin St., across from the Troy First United Methodist Church. The event is being sponsored by the Troy United Methodist Women.

The proceeds will be donated to local charities. For further information, call the church at 335-2826.

Christmas bazaar at Ginghamsburg

TIPP CITY — Over the past nine years, Ginghamsburg Kids have raised more than $120,000 towards the Christmas Miracle Offering. This year’s Christmas Miracle Bazaar will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, in the Avenue, featuring kid-created gifts such as ornaments, dog treats, baked goods, gift baskets and more with 100 percent of the proceeds going towards the Christmas Miracle Offering.

Have your picture taken with Santa, munch on lunch from the food court vendors, enjoy children’s activities and live performances, and bid on silent auction items. Casstown Christmas celebration set

CASSTOWN — Casstown United Methodist Church will be partnering with the Casstown town council for a Casstown Christmas Celebration from 4-6 p.m. on Dec. 4, to be held in Veterans Park. Make ornaments to hang on the community tree and to take home, and enjoy carol singing and refreshments (hot chocolate and cookies.) There will be a visit by Santa and a tree lighting at 6 p.m. Come join this festive event for all ages.

In case of rain, the ornament making and refreshments will be in the Casstown church basement.

Family Christmas dinner and celebration

TROY — Troy Church of the Brethren invites our friends and family to join us for a family Christmas dinner and celebration with music and candle lighting on Sunday, Dec. 4.

Dinner will be downstairs in the Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. and the Christmas celebration will be upstairs in the sanctuary at 7 p.m. Special guests include singer and story teller Joseph Helfrich with Bill Light and the Simple Gifts Quartet.

Hear the sounds of the season

TROY —On Sunday, Dec. 4, the Tippecanoe Community Band will present, “Sounds of the Season.”

At 7 p.m., 50 musicians from all over the Miami County will play favorite holiday music, including a sing-along, at First United Church of Christ.

The church is located at 120 S. Market St., Troy, on the corner of South Market and Canal Streets. The church is handicapped accessible at the Canal Street entrance.

Church to host live nativity drive-thru

TROY — Join Troy View Church of God for a different view on Christmas this holiday season. Stay in the warmth of your own car as you either listen on CD or iPhone by visiting the TroyView.com website. Travel through nine different scenes and contemplate the real meaning of Christmas.

The event is free, but donations will be accepted. The church is located at 1770 N. County Rd. 25-A, next to El Sombrero. Please enter from the north to keep the flow of traffic going on 25-A.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser planned

FLETCHER — A spaghetti dinner fundraiser is planned for Saturday, Dec. 10, at 5:30 p.m.

The meal, to be held at the Fletcher United Methodist Church, 205 S. Walnut St., Fletcher, is to benefit the Francis family who recently lost their home in a fire.

A freewill donation will be accepted with all proceeds going to the Francis family.

Community invited to candlelight service

PLEASANT HILL — First Brethren Church invites the public to their annual candlelight Christmas Eve service.

All are invited for a night filled with music, drama, and the Good News of the Savior’s birth at 7:15 p.m. Dec. 24.

The church is located at 210 N. Church St., Pleasant Hill.
