Restaurant inspections


Restaurant inspections are performed in the county by Miami County Public Health, except in Piqua, which has its own health department. Miami County Public Health can be reached at (937) 573-3500, by email at [email protected] or on the website at www.miamicountyhealth.net. These inspection reports were provided by Miami County Public Health.

Aug. 31

Covington Middle School, 25 Grant Street, Covington — Great at time of inspection.

Opportunity School, 1100 Wayne Street, Suite 1400, Troy — Food area fine at time of inspection. Note: Add cold packs to cooler. This will help ensure temperature of 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below. This is for food delivered to the site.

Social Communication Unit, 1400 Wayne St., Troy — Good at time of inspection.

St. Patrick Parish Center, 444 E. Water St., Troy — Discussed using plastic, drying mats instead of towels when allowing dishes to dry. Satisfactory at time of inspection.

Taco Bell, 1470 W. Main St., Troy — Counter and wall behind drink station has food/drink debris build-up. Ensure area is cleaned more regularly.

VFW Post #4235, 173 N. High St., Covington — Facility good at time of inspection. Note: remember to clean ice machine all parts when needed.

Village Sunoco, 211 S. Main St., Pleasant Hill — Walk-in milk trays have build-up of debris. Wash, rinse and sanitize more regularly to prevent debris buildup.

Sept. 1

Burger King, 1829 W. Main St., Troy — Observed grout that is collecting food residual between tiles. Use a deep cleaning floor product or regrout tile floor properly. Observed mop sink with crack in bottom. Fix sink properly.

Marion’s Piazza, 1270 Experiment Farm Road, Troy — Establishment in great operation at time of inspection.

Tipp City Foodtown, 960 W. Main St., Tipp City — Observed sauce in deli with a discard date of 8/31. RTE, TCS foods must be discarded within seven days to limit germ growth. CORRECTED. The produce area was using a cleaner on counter tops with no sanitizing step. Discussed sanitizers to be used to limit germ growth. The ceiling in the produce walk-in is leaking. Please repair.

Tipp City High School, 615 East Kessler-Cowlesville Road, Tipp City — Critical violation at time of inspection: the dishmachine rinse temperature was 136 degrees Fahrenheit (supposed to be 160 degrees) and final rinse temp was at 178 degrees (required to be more than 180 degrees) after running machine through four cycles. Repair machine to achieve sanitation. Maintenance has been called.

Tipp City Middle School, 555 N. High St., Tipp City — The fans used in the kitchen are dirty with dust and grime. Clean more often to prevent. REPEAT VIOLATION The fan in the employees’ restroom still doesn’t work for third inspection in a row. The fan must be repaired within five months and by next inspection.

Troy Christian High School, 700 S. Dorset Road, Troy — Food service in good operation at time of inspection.

Weldy’s Dairy Bar, 218 S. Miami Avenue, Bradford — Follow-up inspection for prep cooler. Prep holding proper temperature at time of inspection. Note: closing Oct. 2 for year.

Sept. 2

Comfort Suites, 1800 Towne Park Drive, Troy — Cooler thermometer not reading accurately. Repair or replace thermometer. Cooler has a covering on bottom that is deteriorated. Remove and ensure it it cleanable.

Covington High School, 807 Chestnut Street, Covington — Food service in good operation at time of inspection.

Milton-Union Exempted Village Schools, 7610 Milton-Potsdam Road, West Milton — Satisfactory at time of inspection.

Skyline Chili, 1775 W. Main St., Troy — Cooler has some build-up of debris on walls. Clean more regularly. Debris on floor under soda dispensers. Ensure area is cleaned more regularly.

The Cakery, 1875 W. Main St., Troy — The inside of microwave needs to be cleaned more often to prevent accumulation of food debris.

Troy Christian Elementary and Middle School, 1586 McKaig Avenue, Troy — Satisfactory at time of inspection. Discussed remodeling plans with the manager.

Wendy’s Restaurant, 1300 Archer Drive, Troy — Floor needs regrouted. Grout levels are very low and some areas not present. Observed dual side prep cooler unit not holding temperature controlled for safety (TCS) foods at 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below to limit growth of bacteria. Managers removed certain foods and time marked other foods. Fix cooler issue immediately to ensure 41 degrees of below. Observed grilled chicken breast not holding 135 degrees or greater to limit growth of bacteria. This food must maintain 135 degrees or greater hot holding. Fix issue immediately.

Sept. 3

Bethel Local High School, 7490 S. State Route 201, Tipp City — Keep cold TSC foods under refrigeration as long as possible. Only bring out as needed.

Bethel Local Middle School, 7490 S. State Route 201, Tipp City — Satisfactory at time of inspection.

Frisch’s Restaurant, 20 Troy Towne Road, Troy — Critical violation at time of inspection: observed cooks handle raw meat with gloved hands then handle RTE buns already through the toaster. After handling raw meat, gloves must be removed, hands washed, then reglove to prevent cross contamination. Observed clean bowls sitting next to hand sink with water splash. Clean dishes must be stored in area protected from splash and contamination. Observed hand sink with dirty dishes inside. Hand sink must only be used for handwashing only. Observed the collection pans from the hood overflowing with grease. Change more often. The insulation around the pipes in the walk-in freezer are deteriorated and falling apart. Please repair.

McDonald’s, 1560 W. Main St., Troy — Hand sink in rear of facility is blocked by items. Ensure hand sink area is open. Observed chemical spray bottles near sealed food items. Store chemicals in proper designated area away from food and utensils to prevent chemical contamination. Observed food residual build-up on hot holding and cold holding and food stationary/equipment. Deep clean food equipment when needed and when required.

Milton-Union Recreation Association, 7640 Milton-Potsdam Road, West Milton — Operations good at time of inspection. Three people in charge took level-one serve-safe training.

Mojo’s Bar and Grill, 109 E. Main St., Troy — Pop gun nozzle must be cleaned every 24 hours or when needed. Clean when required. Observed cutting board with residual staining. Resurface or replace cutting board so it does not easily stain or hold residual. Ensure sanitizer test strips are available to check sanitizer levels in sinks and buckets.

Outback Steakhouse, 1801 Towne Park, Troy — Reinspection of facility. Manager checked SOP’s for time stamping items in kitchen. Time stamping can’t be used when food is on ice or in the heat well. Only use when removed from temperature control.

Overfield Early Childhood Program, 1725 S. Ridge Avenue, Troy — Discussed labeling shelves in refrigerator for staff. Only use foods from approved sources.

Wendy’s Restaurant, 1300 Archer Drive, Troy — Follow up for cold holding and hot holding equipment. hot holding unit is holding proper temperature of 135 degrees or greater. Monitor and check temperature frequently. Cold holding unit is working on the grill/cook side. Food is holding 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below to limit growth of bacteria. The other prep cooler is not holding 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Food service is currently not using the cooler side.

Sept. 4

DJ Pizza Alley, 18 S. Second St., Tipp City — Observed some TCS foods not date labeled. Ensure TCS foods are used of discarded in seven days to limit bacterial growth. Secure prep sink so it is not loose. This will help prevent leaks.

Holiday Inn Express, 1100 W. Main St., Tipp City — Follow up for approved refrigerator on buffet area. At time of inspection an approved refrigerator is holding proper temperature.

Little Caesars, 1408 W. Main St., Troy — Observed freezer (chest) in corner that must be checked to see if it is health code approved. If it is not approved this freezer must be removed from the establishment. Observed tape on plastic piece on dough equipment. Replace plastic piece properly. Recaulk three compartment sink wall area. Observed mildewed caulking. Observed oil residual on handles of equipment. Clean frequently and when needed.

Wendy’s, 1300 Archer Drive, Troy — Follow-up for prep cooler not holding proper temperature. Food service is working on the issue and is currently not using cooler side that isn’t working. Management has a new method for cooler operation that they are working on.
