MIAMI COUNTY - Leave the cooking to the experts and the clean-up to the 4-H kids at the annual Miami County 4-H Barbecue next Saturday.
The annual Miami County 4-H Barbecue begins at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Miami County Fairgrounds. Shredded barbecued pork and beef sandwiches prepared by Chuck Lyons as well as chips, pop, cookies, ice cream and pie will be available throughout the event. All proceeds benefit Miami County 4-H clubs.
“The annual barbecue helps raise funds for 10 year awards, ribbons for all the exhibitors and just general behind the scene costs to help the 4-H kids all year,” said Miami County 4-H BBQ committee chair Craig Lichtenberg. “It’s a great way to help all 4-H members and it’s our only fundraiser of the year.”
The proceeds also include 4-H scholarships, camp scholarships and other activities Miami County 4-H and Cloverbud members are involved in all year round.
A new feature to this year’s annual fundraiser will be a silent auction from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Items donated by each Miami County 4-H club will be on display for the community to bid. Individuals must be present to win.
“Each 4-H club donated items for the auction,” Lichtenberg said. Local 4-H clubs are still taking donations of items for the silent auction through Saturday. Contact your local 4-H club to make a donation.
There will be plenty of family friendly activities for all to enjoy throughout the event. A Kiddie Tractor Pull begins at 4:30 p.m. Registration will be held prior to the start of the pull.
Several safety demonstrations will be held beginning at 4 p.m. including a bicycle safety demonstration. Fletcher Fire Department volunteers will show children what to do in case of a fire emergency. Koenig Equipment also will host a tractor safety demonstration for children using its John Deere equipment on display at the fairgrounds.
The Troy-Miami County Library bookmobile will also be at the fairgrounds from 4-6 p.m.
The evening concludes with the traditional Miami County 4-H dance beginning at 8 p.m.
The day also includes the Miami County 4-H Advisors Horse Show at the horse arena beginning at 9 a.m. The Miami County Fair King and Queen will also be named on Saturday prior to the barbecue.
