MERCER COUNTY - Aggravated murder and theft after using methamphetamine has put two Union City men’s cases in procedural mode, according to recent Mercer County Court reports.
Investigators believe Bryant L. Rhoades, 23, Trevin Sanders, 20, and others went to a Ft. Recovery home on Nov. 29 and 30, 2011, to burglarize it. They reportedly smoked methamphetamine before entering the home and then duct taped Robert Grube, 72, and his daughter Colleen Grube, 47, before shooting them to death.
The other suspects involved have not been identified by authorities.
Rhoades is being held at Mercer County Jail on $5 million bonds. A hearing is set for July 1, at 3 p.m. for court procedures.
He is being charged with 15 related offenses to the crime: first degree felony premeditated aggravated murder; first degree felony for aggravated murder; two counts of first degree murder; first degree felony for aggravated burglary armed with a deadly Weapon or dangerous ordnance; second degree burglary with the purpose to commit theft; two counts of first degree misdemeanors for theft with out consent; a third degree felony for theft of a firearm; a first degree felony of involuntary manslaughter resulting from a felony; a first degree felony of kidnapping - commission of felony, flight; first degree felony of kidnapping; first degree felony of aggravated Robbery - armed, deadly Weapon or about offender control display brandish; a first degree felony of aggravated robbery to afflict or attempt to inflict serious physical harm; and a first degree felony of aggravated burglary to inflict harm.
A third degree felony of obstructing justice with a bond at $350,000 for injuring a correctional officer is also included.
Codefendant, Sanders, is being held at Mercer County Jail on $5 million bonds. Although he was arrested on as many if not more related offenses as Rhoades, Sanders was convicted in April on first degree felony of premeditated aggravated murder; a first degree felony of aggravated burglary to inflict harm; and a first degree felony of aggravated robbery - armed, deadly weapon or about offender, control display brandish.
Twelve other charges against Sanders related to the offense are pending at this time, according to the courts.
His procedural hearing is set for July 2, at 10 a.m, according to the courts.
