Bowen trial delayed

MIAMI COUNTY — Due to a medical issue, Miami County Common Pleas Judge Christopher Gee on Monday continued the five-day jury retrial of Frank Bowen, 26, of Tipp City.

On Oct. 23, 2014, Bowen was arrested for the death of Joseph Graley III, 31, of New Carlisle. Graley was found deceased under a brush pile in the backyard of his home on Scarff Road by Miami County Sheriff’s Office officials on Oct. 23. Bowen was at the home at the time of Graley’s alleged disappearance. Experts testified that Graley was killed by blunt force trauma to the back of the skull. A mini sledge hammer was found near the body with both Graley and Bowen’s DNA on the handle.

Bowen’s first trial ended with a hung jury on Aug. 4 after two days of deliberations. The jury found Bowen guilty of felony safe cracking, but failed to reach a verdict for murder, gross abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

A new trial is expected to be set as soon as possible.
