MIAMI COUNTY — The 2015 Miami County Junior Fair King and Queen will be spending a lot of time together outside of the cow barns this year.
The 2015 Miami County Junior Fair King and Queen are Brandon Newton and Brianna Ellish, both of Bethel Township.
On Saturday afternoon, Newton and Ellish, both FFA and 4-H members from Bethel Township, were chosen by judges to represent the Miami County Junior Fair this year.
If Ellish should need help with her royal fair duties, she’ll simply turn for guidance from her brother and sister who have been selected as fair king and queen over the years.
“There was a little pressure from my siblings that’s for sure, but it was all in good fun,” Ellish said. “I want help spread the word about 4-H and FFA and to be that person someone could look up to. It’s not all about livestock and animals, there are some many other things to do. It’s been a great experience in my life.”
Ellish, 17, was crowned the county fair’s Beef Queen last year. She will be exhibiting a market beef project at this year’s county fair. Ellish is a student at Bethel High School and Miami Valley CTC. She is the daughter of Brian and Pam Ellish and is sponsored by Milton Union Footprints 4-H Club.
Brandon Newton, graduate of Bethel High School, said he looks forward to the Miami County Fair to relax and have fun with friends from all over the county.
“It’s nice to see all your friends that you only see a few times during the year,” Newton said.
Newton said 4-H and FFA has taught him “hard work and dedication and helping get things prepared on time.”
Newton will exhibit dairy beef, beef feeders and breeding beef projects at the Miami County Fair.
He is the son of Mark and Teresa Newton and is sponsored by All About Animals 4-H Club.
The Miami County Junior Fair’s 2015 Prince Drake Burkett and Princess Isabel Eichhorn, both 7, will have plenty of time to have fun while performing their royal duties such as passing out ribbons and spreading the word about fair fun this summer.
Princess Isabel Eichhorn said her favorite part of the Miami County Fair is located on the opposite side of the animal barn area.
“The rides are my favorite because they go really fast,” she said. Princess Isabel will most likely have to wait to ride those fun carnival rides after she is finished showing her market gilt “Spot” in the hog arena at this year’s fair.
Eichhorn is the daughter of Russel and Rebecca Eichhorn and is sponsored by Girl Scout Troop 34192
Maybe some of Princess Isabel’s royal experience will help first-time contest winner Prince Drake Burkett, of Tipp City. While his princess looks forward to the fair rides, Prince Drake said he is looking forward to the fair food this year.
“My favorite things to eat at the fair are the funnel cakes and the elephant ears,” Burkett said.
Drake Burkett is the son of Toby and Denise Burkett and is sponsored by Button Buddies 4-H Club.
