Franklin Monroe 58

PITSBURG — Last season, the Troy Christian Eagles went against a state-ranked Cross County Conference team (Tri-Village) early on and got beat.

This time around, though, facing another state-ranked team from the CCC in Franklin-Monroe — the Eagles were ready.

Holden Varvel scored a career-high 18 points and Grant Zawadzki poured in 28 as the Eagles handed the unbeaten Jets a 64-58 loss on the road Saturday.

The Eagles (10-1) finished the game 10 for 13 from the arc.

“It was a great team win on the road,” Troy Christian coach Ray Zawadzki said. “It was a nice challenge for the kids, and they all stepped up to the challenge. Obviously it’s exciting when you beat a state-ranked team.”
