Holy Week at First Lutheran Church

TROY — First Lutheran Church, 2899 W. Main Street, will present Maundy Thursday service on Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m. with Individual Absolution, Holy Communion and stripping of the altar.


Good Friday will be observed at 7 p.m. with a Tenebrae Service and Stations of the Cross.

Fletcher holds Holy Week activities

FLETCHER — Today, Fletcher United Methodist Church hosts a Kids Easter Celebration from 10 a.m. to noon today. Preschoolers through 6th grade are invited to come for games, crafts, singing, and an Easter egg hunt.


The public is also invited to the following Holy Week activities:


• April 17 — Maundy Thursday Seder and Foot Washing, 7 p.m.


• April 18 — Good Friday Community Service, Cove Springs United Church of Christ, 7 p.m.


• April 20 — Easter Sunrise Service, 7 a.m. (Communion will be served); Breakfast, 8 a.m., Blended Service, 9:30 a.m. (Communion will be served)

It’s an ‘egg’-stravaganza

TROY — The First United Methodist Church will once again provide a free community egg hunt and picnic at Herrlinger Park (corner of E. West St. & S. Union St., Troy) on Saturday, April 19. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and egg hunts start at 11 a.m. Egg hunts will be available for five separate age groups.


The free picnic will begin at noon. Games and prizes will be offered as well. Bring your camera to take pictures with the Easter Bunny, a basket for the egg hunt and a blanket or folding chairs for the picnic. Everyone is invited to attend.

LCC makes homemade ice cream

LAURA — Laura Christian Church invites the public to attend its Spring Ice Cream Social from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, April 26. There will be six flavors of fresh homemade ice cream - valnilla, chocolate, strawberry, peanut butter, lemon and pineapple.

Sloppy joes, hot dogs, coney dogs, pie, cakes, lemonade and coffee will also be available. Eat in or carry out.

The church is located at 1 S. Main St., Laura. All proceeds benefit the Laura Christian Deacons’ Fund, which assists local persons and families in need.

Quilt show accepts entries

WEST MILTON — Hoffman United Methodist Church, 201 S. Main St., is accepting entries for its semiannual Quilt Show that will be held May 2-8.


Application forms may be picked up at the church office, The Hen’s Nest and Really Cool Stuff in West Milton as well as accessed on the church web site at www.HoffmanUMC.org. Deadline to return application forms is April 21.


The public is invited to enjoy refreshments at the opening reception 6:30-8:30 p.m. May 2. Quilt Show hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 3, noon to 3 p.m. May 4, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m May 5. Admission is free.

Sweet Adelines at Good Shepherd

WEST MILTON — It’s time for a fling with the Sweet Adelines.


All senior citizens in Union Township are invited to Good Shepherd Lutheran’s “Senior Spring Fling” from 2-4 p.m. April 22. The senior ministry at Good Shepherd is hosting the event.


The Infusion Quartet of Sweet Adeline’s International will be our featured entertainment. Food, fellowship, and bingo will complete the afternoon.

Anshe Emeth celebrates Passover

PIQUA — Congregation Anshe Emeth in Piqua will be having a regular Shabbat service during Passover week on Friday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Services will be conducted by rabbinic intern Marc Kasten. An oneg will follow.

Latter-day Saints offer concert

MIAMI VALLEY — The annual Easter Concert of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 18, at the Dayton Ohio East Stake Center, located at 5750 Shull Rd., Huber Heights. The concert is free to the public. The choir features members from Miami, Shelby and Montgomery counties.


All are invited to come and enjoy an evening of uplifting and inspirational music and messages that focus on the Savior’s life and ministry. Traditional Easter as well as American Spirituals choral arrangements will be presented by an 80-voice choir and accompanying wind ensemble. The performance will conclude with “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Light refreshments will be served following the concert.


The concert is under the direction of Skip Wolford of Piqua.


Easter eggs and Tot Town

WEST MILTON — The community is invited to join in the Easter festivities at Community Church located at 2261 S. Miami Street (State Route 48) in West Milton on Sunday morning, April 20. Services begin at 10:45 a.m. with light refreshments served in the church’s Café Hope, beginning at 10 a.m.


Something has been planned for all ages! In addition to a wonderful church service, Tot Town (preschool through kindergarten) and Rock City (first through sixth grade) will have their very own Easter Egg Hunt where the kids will be collecting lots of candy and also have a chance to win a bike and some other great prizes. Every person attending will have an opportunity to have their pictures taken by one of the church’s photographers.

Hope wins at TUMC

TIPP CITY — “Hope Wins” is the theme of the Easter Sunday service at Tipp City United Methodist Church. The traditional service starts at 9 a.m., and the contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m.

Childcare and children’s ministry are available at both services.

Piqua greets Easter at sunrise

PIQUA — The Piqua Baptist Church will hold its annual Easter Sunrise Service on Sunday, April 20 beginning at 8 a.m. The service is entitled “Jesus: Twenty-four Hours and the Third Day!”


The program will be filled with narratives, musical presentations, multimedia dramatizations and the famous Easter hymn “He Lives” to cap off this dynamic service. Instrumentalists and vocalists are: The PBC Praise and Worship Band: Ericka Ernst (Percussion), Chris Rench (Guitar) and Tammy Rench (Keyboard); Vocalists: Logan Ernst, Adam Jacomet, Chris Rench, Colton Risner, Amanda Riley, Kara Riley, and Cherie Roeth. Abby Brown and Kevin Williams from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. will also perform the song “Victor’s Crown” written by Darlene Zschech. Jon Barbee and Doug Morris will be assisting with digital multimedia and program sound.


Immediately following the service, a full breakfast will be served in the church’s community center by the deacons of the church. The location of Piqua Baptist Church is 1402 W. High Street.


Ample parking is available in the rear of the church. If there is inclement weather, greeters of the church will assist Easter guests and have umbrellas available. Kids go “splat!” in Covington

COVINGTON — Fields of Grace Worship Center in Covington will host Splat Experience, a Christian performance art ministry at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Easter Sunday, April 20.


For the last 10 years, the ministry has performed its unique worship-themed painting presentations in churches, schools, music festivals, conferences, conventions, and just finished their second tour with the highly acclaimed Christian band Casting Crowns.


Pastor Phil and the congregation of Fields of Grace Worship Center encourage individuals to come early as seating is limited. The church is located at 326 Troy Pike in Covington.

Offering grief support

TROY — Grace Baptist Church, 1400 N. Market Street, Troy, is sponsoring a weekly Grief Recovery Support Group (GriefShare) on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. now through May 5.


This is for those who are grieving the death of someone close. The group meets in the church annex building (just north of main building).

Cancer-Companions support group available

TROY — With the help of a grant from the Troy Foundation, St. Patrick Church will offer a cancer support group, Cancer-Companions, Bringing Hope to the Journey on Thursdays.


The support group will meet at St. Patrick Parish Center, 444 E. Water St., Troy, upstairs in Room 3 on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.


The support group will offer information on cancer resources and individual support from someone that understands.

Preschool accepting enrollment

TROY — St. John’s United Church of Christ Preschool is now enrolling for fall. Preschool is offered for 3-year-olds from 9-11:15 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Four- and 5-year-olds can come Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-11:15 a.m. or 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.


The school is hosting an open house 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30. There will be snacks and refreshments. Any parent who enrolls their child on this day receives a special enrollment price and a free gift while supplies last.
