TROY — On Sunday, August 10, 7 p.m.,The public is invited to meet the new executive director of the Dayton Peace Museum, Jerry Leggett, at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 at Trinity Episcopal Church.


He will be their featured speaker, after which there will be an ice cream social hour. With the theme “A Touch of Peace,” Leggett will explain the positive building efforts toward peace which are 75 percent local efforts, such as ending domestic violence, crime, and working with the police in the Miami Valley. In addition, Leggett is also a long-time musician who will accompany his songs on the guitar.


Leggett has an extensive background in non-profit management and strategic planning, in addition to fund-raising, digital communication, volunteer management and professional mediation and music. He has an undergraduate degree in communications and a M. Div. focussing on coursework in human behavior and the psychology of Carl Jung. He said he believes in “the amazing capacity imbedded in humans to help make good things happen.”“


Leggett has worked in Alaska and in Hawaii. He is known nationally as Community Organizer and Peace Troubadour. In 2007, he organized a 250-stop national music tour to inspire a culture of peace and conducted more than 7000 video interviews in diverse cultural and economic settings, asking the question, “What does a more peaceful world look like for you?”


Dr. William Shaw, president of the museum’s Board of Trustees, said, “We are very fortunate to have Jerry Leggett as our new Executive Director. Hiring a full-time professional director is a bold step forward in the life of the Dayton International Peace Museum. Jerry brings fresh energy and a long-standing passion for peace.”
