TROY — Miami County Republican voters collectively ruled to select longtime assistant prosecutor Jeannine Pratt over her judicial rival Stacy Wall, Piqua’s law director, at the voting booth Tuesday during the primary election.

Pratt bested Wall in the election by an unofficial vote count of 6,789 votes to 5,819 votes, or by a percentage of 54 percent to 46 percent.

Pratt, who could not be reached for comment, has served as an assistant prosecuting attorney with the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office for the last 17 years.

She sought the political office with the hope of drawing upon her legal experience as a way of giving back to the community and to use that experience to “continue Miami County’s tradition of judicial excellence.”

Like her opponent, Pratt had not sought political office before and with no Democrat challenging her in the November general election Pratt’s victory means she will succeed Judge Robert Lindeman, who decided not to run for re-election this year.

Pratt said her goals include helping to solve the drug epidemic impacting the community and modernizing technology in courts while maintaining high standards.

In deciding to run, Wall said her broad experience and leadership, most recently as Piqua’s law director, would allow her to proudly serve county residents. She sought to assist the county with its heroin problem and address jail space if elected.

In the end, voters selected Pratt to serve as the next common pleas court judge and she will join Judge Christopher Gee in January.

Pratt is a graduate of the Franklin and Marshall College with a major in government and a minor in history as a part of a pre-law program. Her legal education consists of a law degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

Pratt, of Troy, and her husband, Andy, have two children, Caroline, 14, and Nick, 13.
