DARKE COUNTY - A family woke to discover their home ablaze just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Fire crews battled this 3-alarm house fire at 3425 State Route 571 West, just west of Greenville. Flames engulfed half of the 2-story home, located between Wildcat and McMecham Road, when firefighters first arrived on the scene.

The homeowners got out of the structure as they witnessed their home destroyed by flames and smoke just over a week away from Christmas. They went to stay with family and were informed to contact the Darke County Red Cross if they need any help.

DP&L arrived on the scene to shut off power. As of now the fire is ruled undetermined pending an official investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office on Monday. The home is a total loss.
