MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Sheriff’s Office has released more information in regards to the missing funds from the Bethel Wee Stingers Pee Wee football organization last winter.
According to a press release, detectives concluded the investigation and presented their findings to a Miami County Grand Jury, which returned an indictment of theft (F-4) against Cari M. Milliman, 40, of Bethel Township in Miami County on Sept. 2. Milliman had been the organization’s treasurer since 2010. The allegations were reported to the sheriff’s office in February 2015. Two years of financial documents were reviewed by investigators and found $18,595 in funds to the organization was missing, spent without authorization, or fraudulently spent.
According to Miami County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Dave Duchak, the investigation took longer than anticipated due to investigators having to subpoena bank records and follow-up on many transactions.
Milliman was arraigned on an indictment for a fourth-degree felony theft charge on Wednesday. Milliman entered a not guilty plea. A pre-trial date was set for 2:30 p.m. Sept. 21 with Judge Christopher Gee presiding. Milliman was released on a recognizance bond.
