History center to open

PLEASANT HILL — The Pleasant Hill History Center, 8 E. Monument St., Pleasant Hill will reopen on Monday, March 14 from 3- 7 p.m. Several programs will be offered to the public.

The first program will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March, featuring Marla Fair — author; artist, doll restoration artist and historic interpreter — who will present a program titled “The In-Betweeners.” This is a short history of life in Midwest Ohio between the American Revolution and the Civil War.

M-U o offer ACT Boot Camp

WEST MILTON — In an effort to help students improve their ACT scores, we are extremely excited to provide an opportunity to participate in an intensive six-hour ACT Boot Camp, offered by Mastery Prep, on Saturday, April 2 in the Milton-Union Cafeteria.

The cost is $60 and includes a workbook for each participant that includes practice tests with detailed answers and explanations, along with test-taking and time-management strategies to help increase ACT scores. This workshop is open to all students in Miami County but first priority will be given to Milton-Union High School students. There are 100 seats available and students must register by March 18. Upper Valley Career Center Preschool Registration Opens

PIQUA — The Upper Valley Career Center is now accepting preschool applications for the 2016-2017 school year. The Career Center’s Early Childhood Education and Care program operates the state-licensed preschool for children ages 18 months through 5 years old under the direction of two vocational teachers and a program coordinator.

The preschool is licensed by the Department of Education and aligns with the state of Ohio’s Early Learning Standards. ECEC students gain experience working with young children by planning and implementing the preschool curriculum.

Preschool classes for toddlers 18 months through age 3 are offered Tuesday mornings from 9:15-11:30 a.m. at a cost of $180 for the year. Classes for 3 and 4-year-olds are Thursday and Friday mornings from 9:15-11:30 a.m. for $360. Four and 5 year olds attend Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons from 12:10-2:30 p.m. for $540. There is a $20 registration fee to hold a child’s place in class.

Scholarship available

GREENVILLE — Mote & Associates Inc. Engineers and Land Surveyors, located in Greenville, established a scholarship in October 2002 at a celebration to honor the founder of the firm, Richard Mote, for his 30 years of dedicated leadership and his passion for engineering and surveying. The scholarship is for a commendable student seeking a post high school education or enrolled in an accredited college program in the field of engineering, surveying, architecture or a closely related field of study.

High school and college undergraduate Scholarship applications for the 2015-2016 academic year can be accessed and completed on-line at; or may be requested by contacting the company office listed below.

Applications must be returned to the office of Mote & Associates Inc., 214 W. Fourth St., Greenville, by Friday, April 1.
