LEGO coach clinic set

TROY — Do you still enjoy playing with LEGOS even though you’re over 25? Did your interest in science lead you to take things apart and rebuild them out of curiosity? Are you competitive? Do you want to help a child dream about future inventions? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should consider being a First LEGO League Coach.

First LEGO League is a robotics program for 9-14 year olds, which is designed to get children excited about science and technology — and teach them valuable employment and life skills. In FLL, the children program an autonomous robot (using the LEGO MINDSTORMS robot set) to score points on a thematic playing surface.

As part of the WACO Learning Center, sponsored in part by a grant from the Hartzell-Norris Foundation, WACO will be hosting an FLL Coach’s Clinic from 6-7 p.m. Aug. 27. Make a reservation at 335-9226 or call for additional information. The clinic will be held at WACO Air Museum, 1865 S. County Road 25-A, Troy.

The clinic will cover the three components of an FLL competition, tips and best practices for a FLL coach, timing of the 2014 season and introductiobn into programming the NXT.

There is no cost to the seminar, and no obligation to coach.

Loaves to help cancer awareness

MIAMI VALLEY — Klosterman is offering its annual Breast Cancer Awareness campaign with Klosterman’s Pink Loaves.

Beginning Sept. 1, consumers can find Pink Loaves at their local Kroger stores, as well as other major retailers, throughout the months of September and October (you can also locate other retailers on their Facebook under the “ find our products” tab). A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each of these iconic pink loaves will be donated to the Pink Ribbon Girls, a non-profit that supports women through their breast cancer journey. With their “No Woman Travels This Road Alone” mantra, their services support women affected by breast cancer by helping them balance the fear and uncertainty that breast cancer brings to them and their loved ones through meals, transportation, housecleaning and peer support.
