Kickball tournament offered

PLEASANT HILL — Newton SAY Soccer is hosting a kickball tournament.

The tournament will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, July 29 at the Newton Schools baseball fields. The cost is $20 per person and includes a T-shirt. First place trophies are given to the winners. Anyone 10 and older is welcome to play.

Email [email protected] for a form. Forms need to be received by Wednesday, July 27 in order to guarantee T-shirts.

The tournament proceeds go to support a local family who has lost a member due to a car accident. The Hussong family has been involved in the SAY soccer program for many years, and through several generations

Organizers continue to seek sponsors for shirts and food still as well.

Bluegrass band to perform on Prouty Plaza

TROY — The contemporary bluegrass sound of Mad River Railroad will fill the air in downtown Troy as the band performs on the square at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Prouty Plaza.

Mad River Railroad plays contemporary bluegrass, newgrass, fiddle tunes, folk, roots, traditional blues and country music using bluegrass instruments.

Their instrumentals have been called “high octane,” and the band is described as “fun” and “people-friendly.”

Participants should bring their own chairs.

The concert is part of the Downtown Troy Summer Concert Series. It is presented by Troy Main Street, and is free to the community.

Bookmobile to make stop

TROY — The Miami County Park District will host the Troy-Miami County Bookmobile “Out of the Ordinary” from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 at Hobart Urban Nature Preserve, 1400 Tyrone in Troy.

In addition to story time with the Bookmobile, enjoy an activity with a park district naturalist. Check out books for summer reading with a valid library card. All ages are welcome.

Husted’s office to have Troy hours

TROY — Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced his office’s July regional office hours. Regional liaisons for the Secretary of State’s office will be in Miami County from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, July 28 at the Troy-Miami County Public Library, 419 W. Main St., Troy.

The purpose of open office hours is to give local residents an opportunity to learn more about, and stay connected with, the Secretary of State’s office in an informal and accessible setting.

Party at the pool

TROY — Bring your family to the Troy Aquatic Park between 7:15-8:45 p.m. July 31 to celebrate the end of the Troy-Miami County Public Library’s summer reading challenge. Admission is free for everyone who attends. Check the library website or Facebook page for a rain date, if needed. Parents and siblings are welcome.

Honey harvest event set

TROY — Come enjoy the sweet taste of summer at Brukner Nature Center’s annual Honey Harvest presented by the Miami Valley’s Beekeepers Association at 2 p.m. Aug. 7.

Enjoy a taste of this season’s hard work, courtesy of the honey bees at Brukner Nature Center. Free and open to the public.
