MIAMI COUNTY — On Tuesday, the Miami County Commissioners authorized the replacement of roofing at the county’s Job and Family Services building.
The commissioners voted to award the contract to A.W. Farrell and Son of Dunkirk, N.Y., at a cost not to exceed $182,000.
The project will replace two of the building’s three roofs. The third was replaced three or four years ago, JFS Director Teresa Brubaker said. She added that the department has been experiencing issues with roof leakage in other parts of the building.
Jeff Gates of Tremco Inc., a manufacturer of roofing materials and a roofing system contractor involved in the project, said that he has worked with A.W. Farrell and Son previously and been very happy with their “tremendous work” on other projects.
“The realistic life expectancy of the roof we’re about to put on are at minimum 25 years, but because of the type of roof they are and the procedures that we can do…it could be continually restored and these roofs never ever should have to be replaced. Ever,” Gates said. “That’s a hard statement to say, but the science is there.”
The substantial completion date for the project is May 21.
