WEST MILTON — A standoff in Miami County ended peacefully Monday night.
Police were called to a home on Bevonne Court for a welfare check just before 6:30 p.m. A 31-year-old man was reportedly threatening to harm himself.
Officers couldn’t get him to come to the door or answer the phone, so they requested the county’s special response team.
The man did make contact with a family member and gave himself up just before 10 p.m.
“Our goal is to help whoever’s having a problem. And as much as you can, slow down the situation and develop a rapport with them and let them know we are here to help them. It worked tonight,” said West Milton Police Chief Harry Busse.
Police did find weapons in the apartment.
The man was taken to Upper Valley Medical Center for an involuntary mental health examination. He is not facing charges at this time.
