Tipp man charged with gross sexual imposition

Text messages and app “KIK” used to communicate with pre-teen


MIAMI COUNTY — Tipp City Police Department has charged Jose Hernandez-Ruiz, 29, of Tipp City, with one count of gross third degree felony sexual imposition for allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a female victim under the age of 13.

Hernandez-Ruiz was arraigned on the charges on Monday in Miami County Municipal Court.

The allegations stemmed from the victim’s mother. She contacted officials at the Tipp City Police Department after she found a photo, several text messages and inappropriate texting through the message app “KIK” on her daughter’s IPod between Hernandez-Ruiz and her minor daughter. During the investigation, Hernandez-Ruiz allegedly admitted to have a friendship with the victim that had “turned into something more” in the last few weeks. The investigation is still pending. Hernandez-Ruiz remains incarcerated at the Miami County Jail with a $50,000 bond. He is set to appear for a preliminary hearing on March 17.

Troy man charged with burglary

MIAMI COUNTY — Miami County Sheriff’s Office charged Daniel Williams 34, of Troy, with second degree felony burglary for allegedly entering into a friend’s home in Piqua and stealing a $600 watch. The alleged incident occurred on Feb. 19 when the victim found Williams at his residence. Williams allegedly used a key to gain access without permission to make a repair at the home at a later date. It was during the same time frame the watch went missing and was later traced to Williams and a Dayton pawn shop. Williams was arraigned on the charge in Miami County Municipal Court on Monday. Williams posted bond and will appear for a preliminary hearing on March 15.
