Test confirms smooth-running voting machines

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Board of Elections met briefly on Friday to hold a media test of their voting machines for the upcoming March 15 presidential primary.

“The voting machines work fine, and everything looked good with what we’ve seen today,” Chairman Kelly Gillis said. Gillis is confident that the Miami County Board of Elections is going to put on a good election.

“I see no reason why not,” Gillis said.

Gillis and board member Ryan King were present at the media test along with Director Bev Kendall and Deputy Director Eric Morgan. Kendall and Morgan confirmed that everything is continuing to run smoothly with early and absentee voting.

According to the Associated Press, the Republican ballots for the March 15 primary will have two boxes for president, including one for designating an at-large presidential delegate and one for designating a district delegate. There are two pathways to selecting delegates to represent Ohio at the convention, so voters must vote twice — once for the congressional district delegate and once for delegate at-large.

Also according to the Associated Press, the Republican ballot in Ohio still lists 11 at-large presidential candidates and up to 10 district-level candidates. Only four — billionaire Donald Trump, senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, and Governor John Kasich — are left in the race.

For comparison, Democratic primary ballots in Ohio appear as one box with three candidates.

Early voting hours in Miami County for the Presidential Primary will continue over the weekend and next week.

The hours include:

• Saturday, March 5, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• Saturday, March 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Sunday, March 13, from 1-5 p.m.

• Monday, March 14, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On the day of the presidential primary, the hours for voting at the polling locations will be from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
