Essay contest open to students

MIAMI VALLEY — Coldwell Banker Heritage Realtors is accepting submissions for its Ninth annual “My Home: The American Dream” Essay Contest.

Dayton-region students in grades second through eighth are invited to explain in their own words why the place they call home is so special. Coldwell Banker Heritage Realtors will award prizes to the most outstanding entries in three age groups. As students work from concept to finished project, they will hone real-world skills in organization, critical thinking, writing, creativity, teamwork, and more.

This year there will be three grand prize winners awarded $500 each and six runner-up prize winners awarded $100 each. All essays submitted will be carefully read by multiple judges and narrowed down to finalists in three age groups. Representatives from Coldwell Banker Heritage Realtors will travel to each school to present the winners of the contest. The grand prize winners will also be recognized at a Dayton Dragons baseball game on Fifth Third Field.

Coldwell Banker Heritage had a great turn out last year with 300 submissions.

Students should follow these rules when writing essays:

• Entries must be the original work of a student grade second through eighth.

• Entries may come in the form of a written essay, narrated video, power point presentation, a series of photos with captions, comic strip, storyboard, or any other work that combines images and words. Be creative.

• Entries will be judged on creativity, originality and overall quality.
