TROY — The board of park commissioners welcomed Levi Fox as a board member at its regular meeting on Tuesday.
Fox, 29, is a financial analyst for the UTC Aerospace Systems in Troy.
“I’m excited to join the board. I’ve been a Troy resident my entire life, so I was actually looking for a way to get more involved with some sort of board or commission in 2016,” said Fox on Tuesday following his first official meeting. “When the mayor contacted me, I was really excited.”
Fox said serving on the board of park commissioners is a good fit because of his love of recreation.
“Being involved with recreation and different sporting events, I think this is a great fit,” Fox said.
Fox fills the seat vacated by Stan Phillips who retired from the board after 11 years of service.
Fox joins the board with Becky Pierce and president Alan Kappers.
The board approved the recreation department’s Pepsi contract extension through May 3, 2018. Recreation director Ken Siler said the Pepsi contract includes all new equipment for the arena’s pending renovation and construction for its beverage service centers. The contract includes a $5,000 annual payment plus vending commissions. The contract also includes an agreement to provide the city of Troy with all dispensing equipment, vending machines and coolers at no additional cost. Pepsi also agrees to be responsible for all maintenance and repairs on all the equipment at no additional charge.
The links may be closed, but plenty of winter maintenance work and a new bridge has been constructed at Miami Shores. Director Ken Green reported a small bridge was constructed at Hole 16 and 17 where the course has a low point. Green said the bridge was constructed in-house using materials and an available culvert.
