TROY — Two Springfield Junior High School eighth-grade basketball players were charged by the Troy Police Department for assault and disorderly conduct during a basketball game at Troy Junior High School on Dec. 21.
Troy Junior High School Principal Dave Dilbone reported the disturbance call around 8:32 p.m. Dec. 21, as well as other calls from community members about a fight between the players on the team.
The incident allegedly began after a Springfield team member shoved a Troy player on the court, which resulted in a technical foul.
One of the Springfield players who was charged shoved a Troy Junior High School player from behind, knocking him to the ground.
The other Springfield player was charged due to striking a member of the Troy Junior High School coaching staff on the left side of the neck.
A Troy Junior High School female student, who was attending the game, was also charged with assault and disorderly conduct after getting in a fight at the game with another juvenile spectator.
The Troy Police Department forwarded the charges to Springfield Police Department.
