MIAMI COUNTY — On Monday, former educator and high school principal Allen E. Smith, 68, of West Milton, entered a plea of no contest to seven felony counts, including two counts of second and fifth degree felony illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material in Miami County Common Pleas Court.

The charges also include five counts of fourth degree felony pandering sexually oriented material. Miami County Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher Gee set Smith’s sentencing date for Jan. 25.

As part of a plea agreement with the state, Smith will not face any additional charges related to the case. Smith will also be classified as a Tier 2 sex offender and must register his address every 180 days for the next 25 years. He also was ordered not to reside within 1,000 feet of a school building.

Smith’s potential prison sentence on all counts is 16 1/2 years if they are run consecutively, or eight years maximum if they are to be served concurrently. Smith’s bond on all counts remains at $250,000 cash bond.

Smith is a former educator, most recently as a curriculum supervisor with the Miami County Education Service Center where he worked with county administrators, and serving as principal of Milton-Union High School from 1992-2001. He also was employed by the Covington Exempted Village District in the 1980s.

Troy Police began investigating Smith’s actions after a mother of a 14 year-old girl reportedly found messages on a cell phone between Smith and the minor last September.
