MONROE TOWNSHIP — The Monroe Township Trustees announced at the Sept. 8 meeting, the hours for the Monroe Township Building 100th anniversary open house as 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18. The board and staff will be welcoming area residents to view this historic building that currently houses township offices and business and other tenants. There will also be displays of photos and information that depicts the building in the years since its opening in 1915, as a “Century of Memories 1915-2015.”

Other business conducted at this board meeting included approval of the Miami County 2015 Budget Commission Tax Rates, renewal of the Ohio Township Association Risk Management Association insurance policy for the township property in 2016, and agreement to file for a tax assessment this mowing season with Miami County against property owners where it was necessary for the township to mow due to tall grass and noxious weeds.

The trustees were also notified that the Miami County Engineer’s Office has contracted with a road salt supplier for this winter season, at a rate of $84 per ton.

The board paid the bills totaling $105,761.50, and accepted the financial status report for the end of August 2015 and the bank reconciliation of July 31.

In reports, the board was informed the senior citizens will be participating in this year’s Mum Festival parade and have a City Park booth, and that they are planning various open houses where they will explain to area residents about the Senior Citizen’s 1.0 mill levy that is being placed on the Nov. 3 ballot. It was further reported that the final 2015 farmer’s market dates in downtown Tipp City from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 19.

In communications it was noted that beginning September 21, County Road 25-A from State Route 571 (West Main Street) to Curry Branch Drive will be closed due to culvert replacement and utility reconstruction for Phase 1 of the County Road 25-A Reconstruction Project in Monroe Township and Tipp City. County Road 25-A from Curry Branch to 5335 N. County Road 25-A will be open to those residents and local traffic only and no access to State Route 571 can be provided.

Evanston Road, Peters Road and State Route 571 will be posted as the detour route, and this Phase 1 is expected to take three to four weeks. Then the work will proceed to Phases 2 and 3 of the “reconstruction project,” which will change the traffic patterns and access. Further updates on that process will be forthcoming.
