Superintendent addresses district’s families
Troy City Schools Superientendent Eric Herman on Friday sent out the following message through the school’s automated phone system:
Troy City Schools is committed to providing a safe learning environment to all students, including an environment free from sex discrimination. The U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Education have taken the position that prohibiting a student access to the restroom that matches the student’s gender identity is prohibited sex discrimination under Title IX. Therefore, Troy City Schools allows students to use the restrooms that match their gender identity. Each school building has gender-neutral, individual-user facilities available for those students or visitors to the building who do not want to use shared facilities. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or a building principal.
This will be addressed in a Troy Daily News story next week.
