Trustees get update on seniors building campaign

MONROE TOWNSHIP — The Monroe Township Trustees approved a renewal of the residential Street Lighting Assessment rates for the township at their meeting on Aug. 17 and also authorized the fiscal officer to contact the Miami County Auditor’s Office to request that the assessment rates be placed on the affected property owners’ tax duplicate. The rates are reviewed every four years, and will now stay the same for the next four years.

The board also approved payment of township billings that totaled $48,558.61.

In reports, the trustees reviewed an issue with a driveway tube on Ginghamsburg Road, and a noxious weed complaint on Peters Road; and heard about progress by the Tipp City Seniors in getting the word out about the need for the building of a new senior center. The senior citizens campaign for the passage of 1.0 mill levy on the November 2015 ballot is being organized by a committee to include informational meetings open to the public, and potential fund raising projects in September and October that will support the building fund. It was noted that because the Tipp City Seniors group is recognized as a charitable organization, any donations contributed to the Tipp City Senior Building Fund may be eligible as tax deductible for individuals doing in-kind services or giving dollar amounts.

Aug. 29 carries a busy schedule for the community for those wishing to participate, and will include a farmers market in Tipp City at Third and Main streets from 9 a.m. to noon; The Miami County Electronics Recycling Drop-Off from 8 a.m. to noon at the Miami County Sanitary Engineering Building, 2200 N. County Road 25-A in Troy; and a Trans Am Car Show from 5-7 p.m. in downtown Tipp City. The township trustees will also be attending a Tri-Agency meeting on Aug. 31, to be hosted by the Tipp City Board of Education.

Upcoming events in September include the last 2015 Tipp City Farmer’s Market held 9 a.m. to noon in downtown Tipp City on the Saturdays of Septe. 5, 12 and 19; the 100th anniversary of Monroe Township’s historic building celebration on Friday, Sept. 18; and the Tipp City Mum Festival, parade and activities on the weekend of Sept. 25-27.

The final Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off in 2015 will take place Wednesday, Sept. 2 between 9 a.m. and noon. This event takes place at the Sanitary Engineering Facility, 2200 N. County Road 25-A in Troy. For more information, call 440-3488, Ext. 8705, or go to www.miamicountyohio.gov and then to Sanitary Engineering.
