PIQUA — A Michigan man is dead from an apparent medical condition suffered behind the wheel of his truck on Looney Road near East Ash Street on Wednesday morning.

An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper spotted a semi sitting in the roadway on Looney Road around 10:30 a.m. The rig was stopped with the cab in one lane and the trailer in the other.

It appears as if the driver might have just left the Home Depot store on East Ash Street.

Lt. Joe Gebhart of the Piqua post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said a trooper found the driver, George Lee Matteson V, 47, of Dearborn Heights, Mich., slumped over the wheel and unresponsive. The trooper pulled Matteson from the truck and off the roadway, where CPR was started and Piqua Fire Department medics were called to the scene.

Matteson was transported to Upper Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

No crash occurred and troopers, along with Piqua police, quickly re-routed traffic around the scene.
