Fiber art exhibit coming

TROY — The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, 301 W. Main St., will host Five in Fiber, the works of five regional artists. The exhibit runs Aug. 7 through Oct. 4. The exhibit and opening reception are free and open to the public.

Five in Fiber features the work of artists, A. Sue DeSantis, Ronnie Doyal, Pam Geisel, Carroll Schleppi, and Lisa Quintana. Each of these artists brings her unique perspective and talent to the process of creating art quilts. Some employ traditional methods while others in the group use a multi-media approach.

The opening reception is an opportunity to meet the artists. The free and open to the public reception will take place from 5-6:45 p.m. Aug. 7.

At 2 p.m. Sept. 27, at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center will present a special gallery talk. Join the Five in Fiber artists for some special insight into their series of Dayton Landmark quilts.

Veterans breakfast set

TROY — The Children of the American Revolution will provide breakfast for veterans from 9-11 a.m. Aug. 5 at the Miami Valley Veterans Museum, Masonic Lodge building 107 W. Main St., Troy, in the second floor dining facilities (elevator available).

The guest speaker will Mayor Mike Beamish, speaking on events coming to Troy and provide updates on projects going on.

Blood drive planned

TROY — The city of Troy will host a community blood drive from 4-8 p.m. Aug. 4 as part of the annual “National Night out” celebration. The Community Blood Center (CBC) Bloodmobile will be in the Hobart Arena parking lot off Adams Sreet, adjacent to the levee festival area. National Night Out is open to the public with food and entertainment beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Everyone who registers to donate will receive a free “Catch the Wave — Donate Blood” screw top water bottle with straw; everyone age 18 and older will also be entered in the “Get on Board — Give Blood” summer blood drive drawing to win an all-expense-paid Hawaii vacation for two.
