TROY — Mr. Peanut recently dropped by Troy to help celebrate his 100th birthday — and that of a Troy resident half his age.

Jon Dankworth, who resides in Troy with his wife Sue and children, Jonathon, Olivia and Taylor, said he stumbled across the Mr. Peanut’s 100th Birthday sweepstakes link and entered several months ago — and won.

“Since I’m a peanut and peanut butter fan, I thought ‘why not,’ and Sue and I had a pretty good laugh when I received the voicemail stating Mr. Peanut was coming to Troy to celebrate his 100th on my 50th birthday,” Dankworth said.

Mr. Peanut is traveling across the country in 2016 in the NUTmobile, celebrating his birthday — and helping others celebrate their special occasions. Dankworth said to make the event even more fun, his family decided to share his Mr. Peanut experience and had the NUTmobile roll up to Troy’s Submarine House on July 18 for his actual birthday.

“We thought it would be fun to share the experience with friends and the public rather than have a private appearance at our house, so we scheduled the visit at the Submarine House (Troy) on my birthday,” he said.

During the visit, which lasted about an hour and a half, Dankworth said Mr. Peanut posed for pictures and visited with community members at and around the Submarine House.

Dankworth said he even took home some cool prizes, including some “retro” appliance gifts, including a a tabletop icee machine, popcorn maker and s’mores maker, a juicer/blender and a box full of peanuts and supplies for all the items he had won.

At the end of the visit, the Planters team jumped into the NUTmobile, and headed to their next celebration in Cleveland, Tenn., Dankworth said.
