TROY — Systems are go for an annual concert coming this week to downtown.
The United States Air Force Band of Flight will once again provide a concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10 on Troy’s Public Square.
This concert will be by Systems G0, a popular music component of The United States Air Force Band of Flight, stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton.
As part of the Band of Flight’s community relations mission, Systems Go performs at fairs, festivals, amusement parks and a host of community-sponsored events such as the annual Troy concert. Combined with year-round support of military ceremonies and events, Systems Go maintains an extensive performance schedule and repertoire that relies on the talents and flexibility of its members.
Led by Master Sergeant Toby McWilliams, who said he personally has performed the past five years in Troy during the summer concert, the members of this versatile group also have performed with many notable artists.
McWilliams said Systems Go — seven members strong — will be offering a variety of classic and contemporary pop, rock and country music, including music by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Adele and Miranda Lambert.
McWilliams said the band enjoys performing in the city.
“We always look forward to performing in Troy, and we are always very well received in Troy,” McWilliams said. “They do tend to fill the streets for the event.”
Officials welcome the performers as well.
“We are excited that Systems Go, from the Air Force Band of Flight, will once again be with us on Prouty Plaza. This group of active Air Force men and women bring their special musical talent to Troy while they continue to proudly serve and protect our country,” Troy Mayor Mike Beamish said. “I am honored to have them back in Troy and hope our community will join all on August 10th. Let us show our patriotism and Trojan pride at this special military concert!”
The entire Public Square will be blocked for the concert. Some chairs will be set up, but concert-goers are also invited to bring their own lawn chairs.
The rain location is the gym at Troy Christian School, 700 S. Dorset Road.
McWilliams said he hopes the community will come out for an evening of music.
“I’d like to encourage everyone to come on out, have a good time, and enjoy some great music!” he said.
